After Holly left, Sara looped her arm through Norah's and sighed. "That Caleb is absolutely disgusting. But honestly, it's just their bad luck running into Lorelei on this trip."
Adrian disagreed. "He couldn't control his own zipper. He brought that 'bad luck' on himself."
"Fair point!" Sara turned her head and teased. "I guess we have to applaud our very own Adrian for keeping his pants on and his hands to himself!"
"Finally realizing what a catch I am?" Adrian bantered back with Sara, though his eyes kept drifting toward Norah.
Norah turned her gaze to Gonzalez. He was busy packing up his gear, his expression stoic and unreadable. Unlike usual, he didn't immediately look back and acknowledge her gaze.
Was he mad?
Norah's eyes flicked thoughtfully as she raised an eyebrow.
By the time they hit the road, Lorelei and Whitney had already vanished. Holly was also driving out of the valley, while Caleb clung desperately to her car door. "Holly, please, listen to me!"
"Lorelei messaged me first! She seduced me! I can show you the chat history, I swear!"
"Holly, I messed up! Please, think about how many years we've been together. Forgive me!"
"I promise it will never happen again!"
Before leaving, Lorelei had blatantly confessed to Holly that she and Caleb had slept together, then casually walked away, leaving Caleb to clean up his own colossal mess.
Begging frantically, Caleb tried to yank the passenger door open to get in, but Holly shoved him hard. "I bought this car. We're done. Figure out your own way home!"
With that, Holly slammed the door shut, hit the gas, and drove off.
Sitting in the passenger seat of their own car, Norah watched as they drove past Caleb, who was standing in the dirt, cursing furiously.
"Beautifully done," Sara laughed in deep satisfaction.
Norah hadn't expected the usually sweet and innocent Holly to be so ruthless, but it was incredibly satisfying to witness.
Back when she couldn't warn Holly, seeing her alongside a cheating scumbag like Caleb had made Norah sick to her stomach. Now, she finally felt a sense of relief.
"We can pick lotus seed pods too," Sara laughed. "I wonder if the seeds are ready yet?"
The two of them headed off toward the boats, leaving Norah and Gonzalez alone at the pavilion.
Norah grabbed a bottle of water and handed it to him. Resting both hands on the wooden railing, she tilted her head to look at the striking man. "Gonzalez, are you still mad?"
Gonzalez tipped his head back and took a long swig of water. "I'm not mad," he said flatly.
Norah knew he was upset about what had happened that morning. She puffed her cheeks slightly, offering a soft explanation. "I really do trust you. Just as much as I trust Adrian."
Gonzalez's deep, intense gaze locked onto her. "But the first person you trusted was Adrian, wasn't it?"
Norah shook her head. "There's no ranking. I trust both of you. We came on this trip together because we rely on each other. I wouldn't be friends with someone if I doubted their character."
"Let's put that aside for a moment," Gonzalez replied smoothly. "We need to talk about Sara."
