As a celebrated star accustomed to being surrounded by a halo of praise, Yvonne felt not a single ripple of interest at Spencer's eager advances. If anything, she found him intensely irritating and entirely vulgar.

Completely oblivious to her coldness, Spencer continued to boast and brag in front of her.

Yvonne gave him lukewarm responses, occasionally looking up only to catch sight of his creepy, beady eyes. A wave of nausea hit her, and she quickly made up an excuse to go watch Hannah and the others play cards.

As the women chatted over their card game, Mrs. Sagan remarked with a mocking edge, "Yvonne is so outstanding. It really makes you wonder how the young Mr. Hanson turned out to be such a useless failure. It just goes to show how important a child's biological mother really is!"

Another woman, who had recently joined their circle and wasn't fully up to speed, chimed in, "My husband told me the young Mr. Hanson is actually quite capable. He just took over the Hanson family business and is managing things perfectly. He's doing a fantastic job!"

Mrs. Sagan immediately shot back, "What do you know? He didn't even finish college. He spent all his time messing around with a bunch of shady friends. He only crawled back to the Hanson family because he couldn't survive out there anymore. What could he possibly know about running a business? The only reason he hasn't made a complete fool of himself is because Mrs. Hanson's brother has been supporting and guiding him at the company!"

Naturally, these were the very rumors Hannah had been systematically feeding to the socialites. According to her narrative, even after returning to the Hanson family, Gonzalez was utterly useless and incapable of doing real work.

After Mrs. Sagan finished her spiel, she turned to Hannah. "Isn't that right?"

Hannah put on a look of troubled reluctance. "What else could we do? When I married into the Hanson family, I promised to treat him like my own flesh and blood. I couldn't just stand by and watch him struggle at the company and spiral further downward. So, I asked my brother to step in and help him out!"

"You put more effort into being a stepmother than most biological mothers do!" Mrs. Sagan clicked her tongue.

Hannah smiled tenderly. "We're family. It's the least I can do. I've never once viewed Gonzalez as just a stepson."

The other women quickly added their praises. "Mrs. Hanson, you have such a kind and generous heart!"

Yvonne listened from the sidelines for a while, staying completely silent.

Once the card game ended, mother and daughter headed home in their car. Hannah complained, "Weren't you a little too cold toward Spencer? He asked you out to dinner tonight, and you could have at least made up a polite excuse. Rejecting him that bluntly gives him no face at all. It's going to be so awkward the next time I see Mrs. Sagan."

Yvonne's expression was haughty. "I'm not interested in him. Why should I waste my time pretending?"

"What's wrong with Spencer?" Hannah pressed. "The Sagan family is rising fast in J City. Spencer is a talented, good-looking young man with real potential."
