In the living room, Catherine was still holding Estelle's hand, chattering away. Since the baby was due early next summer, Catherine had designed an array of tiny outfits based on the season and next year's zodiac sign, showing them to Estelle one by one.
Jonathan took a seat beside them. "Mom, Ella didn't sleep well last night. Let her head upstairs to rest, and you can show these to me."
Catherine instantly grew tense. "Why didn't she sleep well? Is she getting insomnia already?"
In reality, Estelle had slept perfectly fine. A certain someone had decided to start prenatal education early, pulling her into his arms and reading her stories. She had fallen asleep before he even finished the second one.
Catching Jonathan's drift, she played along. "It was just a little warm last night, so I tossed and turned."
Catherine's face lit up with realization. "When I was pregnant with Jonathan, I was terrified of the heat too! The AC would be blasting, and I'd still wake up sweating in the middle of the night. It completely vanished the second he was born. It just means the baby takes after their father, which is why you're feeling so hot."
Seeing that his mother was about to launch into another endless monologue, Jonathan quickly grabbed Estelle's hand and pulled her to her feet. "Mom, I'm taking Ella upstairs to rest. Whatever you need to say, you can just tell me later."
"Go, go on," Catherine urged, her tone full of concern. "Don't bother coming back down, just stay up there and keep her company."
"Will do," Jonathan smiled.
With that, he led Estelle upstairs.
At the landing of the second floor, they ran into Henson. He respectfully greeted Auntie Estelle out loud, but secretly flashed her an 'OK' sign behind Jonathan's back.
Estelle caught on instantly, shooting him a deeply grateful look.
As they headed up to the third floor, Jonathan simply scooped Estelle into his arms, carrying her the rest of the way with steady, confident strides.
A soft smile touched Estelle's lips. "No wonder people say pregnant women get treated like royalty."
Jonathan chuckled softly, his dark eyes burning into hers. "I always want to spoil you like this. Being pregnant just gives me a perfectly justifiable excuse."
Estelle's eyes danced with amusement. "Well, rein it in a little, Mr. Lamont. I feel completely fine right now. Save the spoiling for when I'm actually too heavy to walk on my own."
He carried her into the bedroom and gently set her down on the sofa. Bracing his arms against the backrest, he leaned over, capturing her lips in a soft, murmuring kiss. His tone was a devastating mix of dominance and tenderness.
