Someone was flying a drone on the hotel's rooftop, and Henson had gone up to check it out. The food was already being served, but he still hadn't returned. Since he had left his phone behind, Norah had no choice but to go find him.
The elevator was crowded, so Norah stood quietly in the back corner.
When the doors opened on the third floor, two women dripping in diamonds stepped in. One of them laughed. "Mrs. Hanson, let's play a few rounds of cards after dinner. We can head home late."
The other woman sighed. "I'll pass. My luck has been terrible lately."
Recognizing the voice, Norah glanced up. She caught a glimpse of the woman's profile—it was indeed Hannah Hanson.
Hannah was wearing a pale blue haute couture gown and a matching set of diamond jewelry. She looked wealthy, but the ensemble bordered on gaudy.
Her companion continued to coax her. "Come on, maybe your luck will turn around tonight!"
"You said that yesterday!"
"Did I?" The woman chuckled, covering her mouth delicately. "If you lose tonight, I'll cover your losses!"
"Well, in that case, I won't hold back."
Chatting and laughing, the two women rode the elevator up to the tenth floor, which housed an open-air tea lounge.
An idea sparked in Norah's mind, and she quietly slipped out of the elevator behind them.
She had worn a pair of stylish gradient sunglasses and pulled the hood of her sweatshirt up over her head. Even an acquaintance wouldn't recognize her at first glance.
She trailed Hannah into the tea lounge and deliberately chose a table right behind hers.
Hannah met up with three other high-society women. After the usual exchange of empty compliments, someone noticed Hannah's new limited-edition handbag, and the conversation inevitably drifted to designer fashion and the latest luxury trends.
Norah was growing utterly bored and was just about to leave when Mrs. Reeves, the woman who had ridden the elevator with Hannah, suddenly brought up Gonzalez.
Hannah lowered her head to hide a wicked, triumphant smirk. She was just about to reply when a glass of hot tea was suddenly hurled directly into her face.
"Ah!"
She shrieked in shock and scrambled backward, letting out panicked yells from the burning heat. Furious, she snapped her head up to glare at her attacker.
The other women stared in stunned silence at the young girl who had just materialized beside their table.
"Where does a gossiping hag get the nerve to sit around slandering people behind their backs?" the girl demanded, her voice dripping with ice.
Hannah's face was flushed red from the hot tea, her expensive makeup running in messy streaks. She trembled with pure rage. "Who the hell are you?"
The girl blinked, feigning utter shock. She slowly pulled off her sunglasses and lowered her hood, staring wide-eyed.
"Mrs. Hanson? Is that you?"
