Adrian looked down at her, his expression perfectly melting into one of a doting partner. "Your mom sent me to get you."

Catching on, Sara leaned into the act, pouting slightly. "I told her I was on my way. Why did she make you come all the way out here?"

"It's my job to take care of you," Adrian replied, his tone dripping with affection.

Mr. Holt, sensing a way out, quickly interjected, "Sara, since your boyfriend is here, you should get going!"

Sara nodded, turning back to the client. "I'll have to take a raincheck on that performance, Mr. Keene. Have a good night!"

Deflated, Mr. Keene couldn't argue. "Drive safe," he muttered.

Sara smiled tightly. "Let's go home," she said to Adrian.

Adrian kept his arm around her as he guided her to his parked car.

The second the doors closed, Sara let out a massive breath, her posture collapsing into the leather seat. She practically melted against the headrest. "What are you doing here?"

"Just passing by," Adrian said smoothly. "I saw you getting cornered by those creeps and figured you needed an out."

Sara let out a weak, breathy laugh. "Thank you so much. If I had to endure another hour of that, I probably would have dropped dead."

Under the streetlights, Adrian finally noticed how pale she looked. "Are you okay?"

Treating him like a buddy, Sara didn't bother sugarcoating it. "Time of the month. Cramps."

Adrian frowned, genuine concern flashing in his eyes. "Do you need a hospital?"

"God, no." Sara chuckled softly. "I can tell you've never had a girlfriend. This happens every month. It's totally normal."

"Right," Adrian muttered, his frown deepening. "If you felt like garbage, why were you out drinking?"

Sara sighed. "I didn't have a choice. Client dinner."

"Just rest. I'll take you home," he told her.

Sara looked at him, exhaustion pulling at her features. "I owe you one, Adrian. Seriously, thanks."
