He set a cup of yogurt on the counter. "Drink this first. Dinner will be ready in a minute."
With that, he turned and went right back to the stove.
Norah’s face cycled from bright red, to pale, to entirely flushed. How on earth were they supposed to be 'just friends' like this?
When had he become such a massive flirt?
Unbelievable.
It seemed she still had a lot to learn about him.

Gonzalez steamed some fish he had saved in the freezer, scrambled a few eggs, and threw together a simple soup.
Whether it was the familiar smell of his cooking or the fact that she was starving, Norah's stomach let out a loud rumble the second she sat down.
Gonzalez flaked the fish onto a small plate for her. Norah ate her portion while occasionally dropping a piece for Circe.
Scrambled eggs were the most basic meal imaginable, but right now, they tasted infinitely better than the gourmet tuna sushi they had served at the gala.
He spent the meal separating the bones from her fish, eating nothing himself. He just watched her quietly, occasionally checking his phone to reply to work emails.
"Why aren't you eating?" Norah asked between bites.
"I ate before the event," he replied mildly.
Norah nodded. She had been stuck late at the office, so she and Adrian had rushed straight to the venue. They had planned to grab food together afterward.
Remembering that, she pulled out her phone and shot Adrian a text. [Sorry for bailing on you.]

Adrian was already miles away from the hotel. Sitting in the back of his car, he read Norah's text, a bitter smile twisting his lips. [It's okay.]
He tossed his phone onto the seat. Suddenly, he dreaded the thought of going home to an empty apartment.
"It's true. Look at my call log." Sara flashed her screen. "My mom called me five times during dinner."
Running on liquid courage, Mr. Keene refused to back off. "I'll call her myself and send someone to handle whatever it is. You're coming with us tonight."
The other men chimed in, pressuring her to agree.
Mr. Keene was one of the company's biggest clients, and Sara couldn't afford to insult him. But she felt physically sick. She had her period, had been forced to drink on an empty stomach, and her abdomen was knotting in agonizing cramps. Cold sweat slicked her spine, and her legs were practically shaking beneath her.
Mr. Keene reached out to grab her hand. Suddenly, another arm shot out, intercepting him and wrapping warmly around Sara's shoulder.
"Sara, I'm here to pick you up!" a cheerful voice announced.
Sara stared in shock at Adrian. His grip was warm and steady against her freezing skin, and instantly, a wave of relief washed over her.
"Who is this?" Mr. Keene demanded, eyeing Adrian up and down.
Adrian seamlessly pulled Sara behind him, shielding her from the older man. "I'm Sara's boyfriend. I'm taking her home."
