He set a cup of yogurt on the counter. "Drink this first. Dinner will be ready in a minute."

With that, he turned and went right back to the stove.

Norah’s face cycled from bright red, to pale, to entirely flushed. How on earth were they supposed to be 'just friends' like this?

Gonzalez steamed some fish he had saved in the freezer, scrambled a few eggs, and threw together a simple soup.

Whether it was the familiar smell of his cooking or the fact that she was starving, Norah's stomach let out a loud rumble the second she sat down.

Gonzalez flaked the fish onto a small plate for her. Norah ate her portion while occasionally dropping a piece for Circe.

Scrambled eggs were the most basic meal imaginable, but right now, they tasted infinitely better than the gourmet tuna sushi they had served at the gala.

Remembering that, she pulled out her phone and shot Adrian a text. [Sorry for bailing on you.]

Adrian was already miles away from the hotel. Sitting in the back of his car, he read Norah's text, a bitter smile twisting his lips. [It's okay.]

He tossed his phone onto the seat. Suddenly, he dreaded the thought of going home to an empty apartment.
