The sun was fully up, and it was time to head to the office. Oliver had no choice but to let it go for now.
As soon as he arrived at the company, his assistant greeted him with a frantic expression. "Mr. Hanson, the CEO just issued a notice. There's an impromptu meeting, and he wants you there early!"
Oliver frowned, wondering what Gonzalez was playing at. Since he hadn't announced his resignation last night, was he planning to do it during the morning meeting today?
He drank a cup of coffee, letting the caffeine dull the edge of his hangover, then straightened his suit and headed toward the executive boardroom.
Entering the room, he realized that not only was upper management present, but several key shareholders were seated as well. A wave of reassurance washed over him. An assembly of this magnitude could only mean the CEO was stepping down.
Oliver held significant prestige within the corporation. Even the shareholders stood up to greet him as he walked in.
He wore a modest, affable smile, though a gleam of pure triumph hid behind his glasses. After today, once Gonzalez was kicked out, the Hanson Corporation would effectively belong to him.
He took his seat confidently. However, a glance at his phone reminded him of Hannah's frantic calls from the previous day, stirring a faint sense of unease in his gut.
A shareholder seated next to him leaned in and whispered, "Mr. Hanson, what's the occasion for calling this sudden meeting? Is it something important?"
Oliver feigned ignorance. "I just received the notice this morning myself."
"Even you don't know!" the shareholder exclaimed in surprise.
Oliver chuckled softly. "The CEO probably has a major announcement. We just need to sit tight and wait."
The shareholder nodded repeatedly. "Right, of course."
Roughly fifteen minutes passed. The boardroom was completely full, but Gonzalez was still nowhere to be seen.
Just as murmurs of speculation began to ripple through the room, the doors swung open, and a woman in a long dress walked in.
Everyone turned to look, exchanging hushed whispers.
"Didn't Assistant Shaw resign? What is she doing back here?"
Oliver's face drained of color as he violently lowered his voice. "Kim, this is the office. If you have something to discuss, wait until I'm off the clock. Leave now."
Every eye in the boardroom turned toward them, ears practically twitching as they waited for the gossip to unfold.
Kim planted her feet. "You need to give me an answer today, or I'm not going anywhere!"
"You—" Seeing the entire room staring, Oliver's face turned a sickly pale green. He shot up, grabbed Kim by the arm, and started dragging her toward the exit.
"Don't touch me!" Kim struggled fiercely, raising her voice to a shout. "I'm pregnant with your child, so you'd better take it easy!"
Oliver froze in his tracks, whipping his head around to glare at her in stunned disbelief.
An explosive uproar erupted throughout the boardroom.
"What is going on?"
