"Neither of those things will happen," Estelle said gently, her calm tone carrying an undeniable steadying power. "Jonathan won't let the situation turn completely sour, and Dad will show Mr. Hanson the proper respect. As for Xavier, since he showed up today, he won't be backing down."
Norah bit her lower lip, her heart settling slightly. She nodded. "Yeah."
She knew that regardless of her family's approval, he wouldn't retreat, and neither would she. All she had to do was wait with peace of mind.
Half an hour later, the group gradually filtered out of the study, leaving only the two patriarchs, Geoffrey Lamont and Simon Hanson, behind to talk.
Geoffrey's expression was stern and commanding, his voice heavy with warning. "After what happened this time, Gonzalez probably won't ever forgive you!"
Earlier, when the room had been full of people, Gonzalez hadn't spared Simon a single glance.
Simon picked up his teacup and took a slow sip. "As long as he secures his position within the Hanson Corporation, I'll have done right by his mother. Nothing else matters."
"You two are exactly alike," Geoffrey said, shaking his head. "You both keep your mouths shut and bury everything deep inside."
Simon offered a faint smile. "How else would he be my son?"
"Norah is still naive and innocent," Geoffrey warned softly. "Gonzalez had better not break her heart!"
"You don't need to worry about that," Simon chuckled. "Norah is a princess in the Lamont family, and she will be treated like royalty in the Hanson family, too."
Geoffrey smiled faintly and nodded in agreement.
Out in the living room, Norah knew the elders had officially approved the engagement. She kept pressing her lips together to suppress a wide grin, her eyes locked on Gonzalez. But with the whole family present, she didn't dare be too brazen or show too much affection.
Gonzalez was sitting with Estelle, chatting quietly.
"Are you surprised?" Estelle asked with a smile.
"Jonathan was just looking for you," Janice said with a warm smile.
"Got it!" Estelle nodded and walked away.
Janice sat across from Gonzalez, her features softening. "Is it time you gave me a new answer to the question I asked you before?"
Gonzalez's expression turned intensely serious. "I have feelings for Norah. Deep feelings."
"What made you finally figure it out?" Janice asked quietly. "Was it the accident?"
He nodded frankly. "Yes. That accident made me realize that compared to Norah, nothing else in this world matters."
Janice gave a small nod and leaned forward to pour him a fresh cup of tea. Gonzalez reached out with both hands to accept it respectfully.
