"When did you plan this?" he demanded.
"I applied ages ago. It just got approved," Sara replied.
His breathing hitched, his silence heavy with what felt like anger.
Trying to keep things light, Sara teased, "No need to see me off. Tearful goodbyes are a bit cliché anyway."
"Who said I wanted to see you off?"
Adrian snapped, and the line immediately went dead.
Sara stared at her phone, frowning. Was he still mad about what happened? If he was so angry, why bother calling at all? It made no sense.
She tossed the phone aside and lay back down, but sleep remained completely out of reach.

Norah and Gonzalez went to the airport to see Sara off. Sara's parents were there too, helping check her luggage while bombarding her with anxious instructions, unable to help scolding her for making such a massive decision without consulting them first.
"Okay, okay, you've said that ten times already!" Sara laughed.
Her mother sighed in frustration. "I'd say it a hundred times if I thought it would actually sink in!"
Sara caught Norah's eye. "See why I fought so hard to move abroad?"
Everyone chuckled.
Between the late night and waking up late, Sara had rushed to the airport without a drop of makeup. She hid behind a pair of oversized sunglasses, which only made her face look smaller.
She threw her arms around Norah, smiling. "Take care, princess. Come visit me whenever you have time. Bring your Mr. Right. Flights and hotels are on you, though."
Norah had been worried Sara might be upset that Khloe hadn't shown up, but seeing her crack jokes put her at ease. She patted Sara's back. "No problem. My uncle's company has a private jet, so I don't even need to buy tickets. Plus, I have an apartment in New York. We'll be fine."
Sara rolled her eyes playfully. "The wealth gap is truly sickening!"
Since that night, Norah's life had become wonderfully, exhaustingly full.
The autumn rain had been falling off and on for nearly a week. Lying in bed listening to the steady drizzle, Norah often felt as if the rain had never stopped at all.
Gonzalez's stamina was astounding. It left her bewildered, breathless, and entirely overwhelmed.
At work, her assistant mentioned she looked especially beautiful lately. Sporting faint dark circles, Norah asked, "What do you mean?"
The assistant tilted her head. "I don't know how to explain it. It's just... this radiant, inside-out kind of glow."
She was like a delicate flower—dazzling in the sun, but even more lush and vibrant after a heavy downpour, blooming with a fresh, seductive allure.
Norah offered a stiff laugh and quickly escaped to her office.
She was terrified her assistant would ask what kind of supplements she'd been taking.
In truth, it was just a guilty conscience. Falling deeply, passionately in love naturally gave anyone an undeniable glow.
