Marina was losing her patience, and her tone reflected it. "Did you need something, Shania?"
"I'm here to see Carson!" Shania shot back.
"He's not here, and he rarely ever comes by. You've got the wrong place!" Marina said.
Shania gave Marina a sideways glance, scoffing in disbelief. "You live here and he doesn't even visit? That just proves you hold zero appeal for him. How can you act so high and mighty?"
Marina didn't dignify that with a response.
She felt a wave of insulted fury wash over her. "If you want to find him, go to where he actually lives. Please don't waste any more of our time!"
Shania pouted and stomped toward the door. "I'm leaving! As if I wanted to stay anyway!"
Marina had to resist the urge to kick her out and tell her to get the hell out faster.
The moment Shania left, she called Carson. "Carson, where are you? I was passing by your apartment and saw the lights on. I thought you were staying there!"
Carson was in the middle of a dinner party. He raised a brow at her words. "You went inside?"
"Yeah, your fiancée is home," Shania said bluntly.
Carson frowned. Knowing Shania's abrasive personality, he worried she might have pissed Marina off. "You saw Marina?"
"Sure did!" Shania huffed indignantly. "No wonder you don't like her. She's not gentle at all, and she's so rude. I don't know what the family was thinking setting you up with her."
Carson's eyes narrowed. Before he could speak, Shania pressed on.
"And she's hiding some wild guy in your apartment!"
Carson was utterly silent.

After Shania left, Marina felt a wave of awkwardness. "I'm sorry about that. She's my fiancé's cousin. She always talks like that, so please don't take it to heart!"
He leaned against the entryway console, his gaze locked onto them, completely still.
Marina looked up and caught his eye, a flicker of surprise crossing her face before realization set in. Right—Carson never knocked.
That was just his style.
Spotting Carson, Yuri sprang to his feet, a sudden wave of sheer intimidation washing over him. "M-Mr. Foster!"
"Working this late?" A faint smirk played on Carson's lips, though the amusement didn't reach his eyes.
"I just needed Ms. Evert to sign off on a document," Yuri hurriedly explained.
Carson nodded. He strolled over to Marina, resting a heavy hand on her shoulder as he leaned in. His eyes flicked to the papers in her hands before he murmured, "Wrap it up soon. I'll be waiting for you in the bedroom!"
His voice was low, laced with a heavy, suggestive intimacy. His hot breath brushed against her ear, sending an involuntary shiver down her spine.
