Over the next few days, Marina Evert found herself busier than ever. Between launching the new project and commuting, she still carved out two hours every night for her manga.
Though she was exhausted, it felt incredibly fulfilling. Whenever the dead of night arrived, dedicating those two hours to her true passion made the day's fatigue vanish into another world.
Nocturne had a day job too, so his manga work was also just a side gig. Their schedules synced up perfectly. After a few days of chatting, their chemistry had only grown, and their ideas clicked effortlessly.
Finding a like-minded friend was always a joy.
On Thursday after work, Marina grabbed a quick dinner at a restaurant downstairs and headed home early. She planned to sketch out some character designs she had brainstormed during her free time that day.
She had just picked up her stylus when Yuri Lestrade called.
Yuri's tone was incredibly respectful. "Ms. Evert, are you home? I have a document that needs your signature!"
"Is it urgent?" Marina asked.
"Yes!"
"Alright, I'll head back to the office right now," she offered.
"Are you at home?" Yuri quickly interjected. "I can just come to you. If you give me the address, I'll bring it over for you to sign. It won't take up too much of your time."
"That works too," Marina agreed.
She gave him her address, and Yuri sounded thrilled. "That's actually right on my way home."
"Come on over, then," Marina smiled. "I'll be waiting!"
While waiting for Yuri, Marina finished refining her character designs and sent them over to Nocturne.
Half an hour later, Yuri arrived, even bringing a basket of fruit he had bought downstairs.
"You really didn't have to," Marina said with a polite smile.
"Don't you have your own house? Why would you need to borrow Carson's?" Shania muttered as she pushed her way inside.
Marina replied, her tone halfway between a joke and a warning, "It's my fiancé's house. It makes me feel secure!"
Shania choked on her words. She stormed into the living room with a dark scowl, only to freeze when she spotted Yuri sitting on the couch. Her eyes practically bugged out of her head before she whipped around to glare at Marina. "Is this your boy toy?"
Marina was utterly speechless.
When it came to Carson's dramatic, loudmouthed cousin, she really wanted to sew the girl's eyes and mouth shut.
She forced herself to remain patient. "No, he's an employee at my company. He's here for work!"
Yuri's face flushed bright red. He stood rigidly, too stunned to speak.
Shania looked them up and down, her muttering starting up again. "A man and a woman alone in an apartment. Who knows what you're doing behind closed doors?"
