Back at the apartment, a familiar feeling washed over Marina as she opened the door. Standing in the entryway, she never expected to feel such a sense of grounded security in a place she had only lived in for a little over a month.

In her moment of distraction, Carson hugged her from behind, resting his chin on her shoulder. The soft sweater and the girl's natural scent made him feel incredibly comfortable. He turned his head to place a soft kiss on her neck, his voice low and sexy.

"Marina, I've missed you so much. After you left, I came here a few times, hoping you'd still be here."

Marina felt a jolt in her chest.

Carson slowly tightened his arms around her, his tone suggestive. "Let's pick up where we left off. I know you like it, and I have even better things to show you."

Marina's tone, however, was calm. "Carson, I need to think seriously about how far we're taking this."

"Isn't it better to just follow your feelings?" the man coaxed.

Marina shook her head firmly. "Following feelings makes it too easy to make mistakes."

Thinking of her reaction in the private room, Carson asked tentatively, "Marina, have you never... done this before?"

With her back to Carson, Marina pressed her lips together. Suddenly unwilling to show weakness in front of him, she said flatly, "How is that possible? I've had boyfriends. It's not like you didn't know that."

Carson thought of Freddy, and an inexplicable surge of anger rose in his chest. His tone cooled. "Your past taste in men is hardly something to brag about."

"It's certainly not as good as yours. I liked Ms. Monet the moment I saw her," Marina scoffed.

Carson frowned slightly, but his tone remained indulgent. "Still jealous, I see."

Marina's breath caught.

She pulled Carson's hands away and walked toward the guest bedroom without looking back.

There were clothes Carson bought for her in the bedroom closet. She hadn't taken them when she left last time. Coming back, Marina noticed a few new additions—coats and the style of sweaters she usually liked to wear.
