Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) novel Chapter 3534

When Marina got off work that evening, she once again found Lucy and Carson talking in the hallway. The girl had changed into a different dress, clutching her cat in one arm and an insulated thermos in the other. "Carson, I made too much soup this afternoon. I thought I'd bring you some."

Carson's expression was distant. He offered a polite, rejecting smile. "No need. My girlfriend and I are going out for dinner tonight."

Lucy's eyes crinkled in a faux-innocent smile, her voice dropping to a curious whisper. "Are you guys really a couple? Why did I see you and her coming out of different bedrooms this morning?"

Carson lifted his gaze, landing squarely on Marina as she stepped out of the elevator. His dark eyes glinted as he let out a low chuckle. "Funny you should ask. I've been wondering the same thing. Why don't you ask her why she was throwing a tantrum and made me sleep in the guest room?"

Lucy's expression faltered for a fraction of a second, but the moment she turned to face Marina, a sweet, adorable smile was already plastered on her lips. "Hey, you're off work!"

Marina walked straight over to Carson, sliding her arm through his. She tilted her head up to look at him. "You know exactly why we slept in separate rooms."

Amusement bubbled up in Carson's eyes. His tone was gentle, dripping with intimacy. "Alright, alright. Next time, I promise I won't keep you up past midnight. Deal?"

He hadn't explicitly said anything scandalous, yet the heavy implication left no room for innocence. Heat rushed to the tips of Marina's ears. She lowered her eyes, a gesture that unintentionally looked like shy submission.

Opposite them, Lucy managed a dry laugh. "Well, since you two are going out to eat, I guess I'll take this back. See ya!"

With that, she clutched her cat and hurried up the stairs.

Marina instantly dropped Carson's arm and moved to unlock their front door.

Carson trailed right behind her. "Having second thoughts?"

Marina turned her head. "What?"

"Didn't you want to use my looks to score free food? It practically delivered itself to our doorstep. Why'd you turn it away?" Carson leaned a hand against the doorframe, his dark, bottomless eyes fixed on her with equal parts scrutiny and amusement.

Marina shifted her eyes guiltily. "I suddenly grew a conscience. I didn't want to see some poor, unsuspecting girl fall into your trap."

Carson was visibly highly entertained. A smirk played on his lips. "And did you fall in?"

Marina scoffed. "My guard is up."

Carson leaned down and pressed a kiss to her forehead. His tone was exasperated, yet laced with a dangerous amount of affection. "Your guard is up, while I tumbled straight into yours without any warning."
