Marina did actually have a tricky issue she was struggling to resolve. Intrigued, she picked up her laptop and walked over to him. "Can you take a look at this clause in the contract? Does it hide any terms that might work against us?"
She handed the contract over without hesitation. Even though it contained sensitive company information, she didn't feel the need to hide anything from him.
Carson glanced at her, a faint smirk playing on his lips, before he focused and began thoroughly reviewing the document for her.
For the next half hour, Carson walked her through the hidden implications of the contract terms. Compared to his sharp business acumen, Marina was still a bit green. She absorbed everything he said, gaining incredibly valuable insight.
Thrilled, she playfully swatted his shoulder. "I didn't expect you to actually know what you're talking about. You're not entirely a playboy after all!"
Carson laughed at her comment. "Am I really that useless in your eyes?"
Marina smiled mischievously. "Not completely. But if you were a bit more serious, I might actually have to look at you in a new light."
"Serious how?" Carson asked with a lazy grin. "If a man is completely serious with a woman, it just means he doesn't love her at all."
The underlying meaning in his words made Marina's heart skip a beat. Feeling the sudden urge to flee the conversation, she shut her laptop. "I'm going to revise the contract. Enjoy your game!"
Once she finished her work, Marina headed straight to her bedroom to sleep.
After turning off the lights, she noticed the television in the living room had been turned down. Outside, the wind howled and the rain pounded harder against the glass.
The room wasn't cold, but Marina's hands and feet were like ice. She tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.
Eventually, the sound of the TV stopped completely.
He must have gone to bed too.
He knew it was her time of the month, so he finally wouldn't come bothering her in the middle of the night!
Marina tried to convince herself she was relieved, but a quiet, inexplicable wave of disappointment washed over her.
Giving up on sleep, she grabbed her headphones and put on some music.
"There are ways to treat it. I'll have someone track down a specialist for you."
"My mom already tried that. They gave me this herbal medicine that was disgustingly bitter, and I had to take it for months. I couldn't stick with it."
As they talked, Carson tucked her freezing feet snugly between his warm calves. "Is this better?"
The intense heat radiating from him made Marina sigh in comfort, though she still felt a bit guilty. "Aren't you cold?"
"Not at all. I run hot, so this is perfect." Carson took her icy hands and tucked them inside his robe, directly against his chest. His voice grew unbearably tender in the dark as he perfectly found her lips and kissed her. "If you won't take your medicine, then I guess I'll just have to warm you up every night."
His chest was firm and smooth, and the inviting heat made Marina reluctant to pull away. Slipping her arms around him, she instinctively clung to his broad shoulders.
After a long moment, the man finally pulled back and held her tightly. "How many days?" he asked hoarsely.
Marina's mind was a hazy mess. It took her a few seconds to realize what he was asking. "Five days," she stammered, deeply flustered.
