Carson hummed in response, his tone thick with seductive promise. "I'll wait."
Marina bit her lip, staying perfectly silent.
She drifted off to sleep wrapped in his arms. This time, Carson didn't have to pull her close; she instinctively sought out his radiating body heat, shifting until she found the most comfortable position against him.
Marina woke up just as the sun began to rise. Still groggy, she stared at the man sleeping soundly beside her.
His sleeping face was peaceful and breathtakingly handsome. Bathed in the soft morning light, he looked like a beautiful poppy flower—dangerous and endlessly intoxicating.
Without warning, Carson reached out and caressed her cheek. Keeping his eyes closed, he mumbled, "Am I that good-looking? Are you obsessed with me? So obsessed you've fallen in love?"
Caught red-handed, Marina felt a brief flash of embarrassment before quickly recovering her composure. "Is it really that easy to fall in love with someone?"
Carson opened his eyes, and for a fleeting second, an intense light flashed in his gaze. He let out a low chuckle. "Falling in love happens in an instant."
Marina feigned a look of sudden realization. "No wonder Mr. Foster falls in love with so many women."
Carson lazily closed his eyes again. Perhaps because he wasn't fully awake yet, his usual defensive walls and carefree facade were stripped away. "Honestly, I don't know if I've ever truly loved anyone," he murmured.
"You don't even know yourself?" Marina asked calmly.
Carson pulled her closer, his voice deep and raspy. "As long as we're happy together, that's enough. Life is exhausting as it is. Why dissect every little thing?"
Resting her forehead against his solid chest, Marina stayed quiet for a moment. "I'm not like you," she said softly. "When I care about someone, I go all in. For me, love is a lifetime commitment."
Carson kept his eyes shut, but his brow furrowed. "What if you love the wrong person?"
Marina raised an eyebrow. "Then you keep looking until you find the right one!"
The man scoffed. "Then how are you any different from me?"
