Over breakfast, Marina happily sipped her soy milk. "Back in college, there was this breakfast joint across from our campus," she recalled fondly. "I have no idea what secret ingredient they put in their soy milk, but it was incredible. The place was always packed. Half the time, by the time we finally dragged ourselves out of bed, they were already sold out!"
Carson smiled. "You graduated years ago, and you're still obsessing over it?"
Marina looked incredibly nostalgic. "Yeah. I just can't forget that taste."
Marina nodded in profound agreement. "That makes sense."
Because of the filter of time, certain memories and people from the past would always become far more beautiful in hindsight.
After breakfast, they headed to work together. Carson's driver was already waiting downstairs. They parted ways at the first-floor elevators, heading off to their respective busy days.
That afternoon, Colby Jensen popped up in the group chat. He mentioned that he still felt bad about Marina footing the bill the first time they met, so he wanted to treat everyone to dinner tonight.
Marina replied: [We're all friends here, there's no need to be so formal!]
Trixie Bell: [It's not just about being formal. We haven't seen each other in days, so let's just use it as an excuse to get together.]
Summer Carlyle chimed in: [Works for me. I excel at getting free food.]
Trixie Bell: [Just wait until you get a boyfriend. We'll definitely make you pay us back!]
Summer sent an emoji of a terrified little girl. [You're scaring me. Guess I'm never dating anyone!]
After a bit more playful banter, Marina agreed to go. [I can get off work around six. You guys pick the place.]
The group started throwing around ideas for what to eat.
Colby even sent Marina a private message to ask about her food preferences.
He politely added: [I'm just trying to make sure everyone is accommodated.]
Marina replied: [I'm not picky with meat, but I don't eat cilantro or onions.]
Colby instantly texted back: [What a coincidence, I don't like cilantro or onions either. I didn't expect our tastes to match perfectly.]
Just as Marina was trying to figure out how to respond to that, Carson suddenly called. She immediately swiped to answer.
Carson paused for a second on the other end, then teased, "Answered on the first ring. Were you just sitting around waiting for my call?"
