After their New Year's trip, Marina Evert returned to J City. Over the weekend, she had couriers deliver the gifts she brought back for Estelle Macclain and Magdalen Sampson. After sorting everything out, she lay down on her bed intending to rest for just a moment, but unexpectedly fell fast asleep.
A week of traveling, exhausted during the day and resting poorly at night, had left her severely sleep-deprived. It was a rare moment where Carson Foster had to go out and wasn't clinging to her, finally giving her a bit of time to herself.
The winter days were short. By the time she woke up, the sky was already completely dark.
She checked the time—it wasn't even six in the evening. The room was dim and quiet; it seemed Carson hadn't returned yet.
She got up and walked out, only to find the kitchen light on and noises coming from inside.
Marina walked over. Carson, whom she hadn't seen all afternoon, had his sleeves rolled up and was busy in the kitchen. She leaned against the dining table and chuckled. "Mr. Foster is cooking himself?"
Carson turned to look at her. Under the lights, his strikingly handsome face was incredibly captivating, his eyes full of charm. "You're awake!"
Having just woken up, Marina had thrown on a long sweater that left her long legs bare. Her hair fell loosely over her shoulders, and her languid expression added a touch of seductive charm to her usually sharp features.
Carson walked out, resting both hands on the dining table to trap Marina between his arms. He leaned down and kissed her lips softly. "Did you miss me?"
Marina cupped his face and laughed lightly. "I just took a nap!"
Carson's hot lips lingered on her cheek. "Did you dream of me, then?"
Marina remembered the octopus from her past dreams and couldn't help but bite her lip, trying to stifle a laugh. "I dreamed about eating grilled octopus."
Carson smirked, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her into his embrace. Looking at the completely darkened sky outside and their reflection on the glass window, an indescribable sense of peace settled in his heart.
The two just held each other quietly, not separating for a long time.
