"Why did you break up?"
His eyes were cold and indifferent, "A peaceful breakup, no right or wrong."
Charlie asked tentatively, "don’t you like her?"
Jonathan hesitated for a moment, "Hmm."
Charlie chuckled lightly, "You used to be head over heels for her, now you just don't like her anymore?"
Jonathan didn't mind Charlie's sarcasm, his tone was cold, "What qualification do you have to say about me, how many times have you broken up?"
Charlie sighed, "We're different, I've never really fallen."
Jonathan, "Even if you've fallen, you can pick yourself up!"
"Alright, as long as you know that!" Charlie laughed, "Looking at you yesterday, I was really worried you'd take a hard fall! Now I'm not worried, just feeling sorry for Estelle, a true heart wasted!"
Jonathan smirked, "She doesn't need your pity;she doesn't even know where her true heart is!"
"What do you mean?" Charlie felt there was more to his words.
"No particular meaning!" Jonathan responded lightly, "I’m ending the call!"
After hanging up, Jonathan's mind went blank for a moment. Yesterday, he was angry, disappointed, and felt good about breaking up to get back at her. But when the feelings died down, his heart suddenly felt empty.
It was as if a hole had been dug in his chest, and his most cherished and precious things had been dug away, leaving only an empty hole. He turned to open the bedside drawer, rummaged around, and found an old pack of cigarettes.
He lit one up, took a deep drag, and immediately started coughing.
It's been a long time since he smoked; he was not used to the taste anymore.
He took another puff, the smoke stuck in his throat, refusing to go down.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door, he looked up, "Come in!"
Henson walked in from outside, came to his bedside, and frowned, "Uncle, how are you feeling? You were drunk last night!"
Jonathan couldn't help but sneer, seeing how well Estelle had fooled him, even winning over Henson, making everyone think she was so nice!
"What's with that face?" Henson said seriously, "I'm almost in middle school, I can tell right from wrong, you have to listen to me!"
Jonathan was a bit annoyed, "Go read your books, some things aren't your business, and you can't do anything about it!"
Henson looked desolate, "Just don't do anything to hurt Miss Estelle."
"What did I do?"
Henson wanted to mention Yvonne's ill-intentions from last night, but decided not to, only saying, "Just listen to me!"
Jonathan chuckled lightly, "Alright, I got it!"
After Henson left, Jonathan lit another cigarette, but the empty satisfaction didn't fill the void in his heart.
He closed his eyes, telling himself, Estelle wasn't worth his pain, he would forget her, completely forget!
