Jonathan cast a glance at the deep blue velvet box in Henson's hand, and asked, "When did she give you this?"
Henson paused for a moment, "About 10 days or so ago. She said she was going on a long trip, might not come back, so she asked me to pass this gift to you."
Jonathan was struck, reaching out to take the box. The box was light, but his mind was heavy. What was she trying to say?
She was not the type to give him gifts after breaking up.
10 days ago? Where was she going?
Jonathan's mind was in a tangle. Instead of continuing his way out, he turned around with the gift box and headed upstairs. Back in his room, he shut the door and sat on the couch.
Holding the box, he sat there with his eyes closed for a while, before slowly untying the bow on top.
As he opened the box, he felt a pang of nervousness. What could she possibly have given him? Was she trying to make amends by sending him a gift through Henson?
As he was thinking, the box was already open. Inside was a certificate full of words. He picked it up and realized it was a marriage certificate.
He was dumbfounded. Continuing to read, he saw his name and Estelle's, along with a date from four years ago.
Jonathan was totally bamboozled.
When did he ever marry Estelle?
His only marriage was a union with the Macclain family, and with Bennett Macclain's daughter, Estelle.
Bennett's confused voice came from the phone on the carpet, "Mr. Lamont, why are you asking this? Mr. Lamont? Mr. Lamont, are you still there?"
Jonathan's face turned pale. His mind was in complete chaos, unable to think.
Inside the box, there was another piece of paper, with a row of graceful, strong writing: Let's get a divorce!
He was stunned, staring blankly at the words, picked up his phone, and hoarsely asked, "Why didn't you tell me?"
Bennett replied, confused, "Hasn't Mr. Lamont met Estelle? I had her come to your hotel before, and she even went to your place as a tutor."
Jonathan hung up the phone, got up immediately. He went downstairs to get his car, and drove his black Maybach out like a bolt of lightning.
