Tears spilled down Grace's cheeks again.
"But every time I close my eyes, I just..."
Damien lowered his head, pressing a soft kiss to the corner of her eye.
"I'm right here," he coaxed gently. "The second we get a lead, I'll wake you up. Okay?"
Grace finally stopped fighting her exhaustion. She curled into him and let her eyes fall shut.
The night felt agonizingly long for her.
She woke up just as dawn broke.
Damien noticed her stirring instantly. "You're awake?"
"Yeah."
Grace sat up, throwing off the covers to get out of bed. "Any news?"
Damien shook his head. "Not yet. Mark's friend is still tracking that taxi. It's going to take a little more time."
"I'm going out to look," Grace said, frantically shoving her feet into her shoes. "I can't just sit here and do nothing."
"Breakfast first." Damien pulled her into the dining room and gently pushed her down into a chair. "You're not leaving until you eat."
Grace didn't argue.
The Western food was simple, and she finished her meal in under ten minutes.
Fifteen minutes later, Lottie and Mark emerged.
"I just got off the phone with my contacts in Svealand, as well as the embassy," Damien said, methodically laying out the plan. "Mark and I are going to head over there to figure out the local police procedures. We need official backing for something like this."
Lottie nodded. "Then I'll stay here with Grace and wait for updates."
"No," Grace shook her head. "I'm coming with you."
"Grace," Damien sighed, unable to hold back his exasperation. "How is it that every time something goes wrong, you completely lose your common sense?"
Beside them, Lottie couldn't help but let out a snort of laughter.
Damien shot her a warning glare.
"Sorry," Lottie sobered up instantly, clearing her throat. "Right. Grace, you need to stay calm. Let's just wait here for news."
