Lilian was weak, so they could sacrifice her with a clear conscience.
Grace was strong, so she deserved to be sacrificed.
Her years of hard work and research were to be handed over to Lilian, and now she was supposed to be sold to an old man for the family's benefit.
Grace almost laughed out loud at their outrageous reasoning.
"He's right."
Dorian quickly stepped in to smooth things over. He was the only one among the Hart brothers who had a shred of conscience when it came to Grace.
"Grace, don't say things you don't mean. Mom, Dad, and Lucian were just confused for a moment. They do care about you."
"Why don't you sit down? We can talk this out as a family. We just need to communicate."
Lilian immediately played her part, squeezing out a few tears and speaking in a choked voice.
"Yes, Grace… It's all my fault. I'm so sorry… If you're going to blame someone, blame me. Please don't be angry with Dad and our brothers anymore, okay?"
Her pitiful act immediately ignited Lucian's protective instincts.
He pulled Lilian behind him and glared at Grace.
"Grace! Stop being so passive-aggressive! What has Lilian ever done to you?!"
"Let me tell you, if it wasn't for Lilian, this leg would have been useless!"
He pointed to his right leg, his eyes filled with loathing.
"When I had that car accident, the doctors said there was no hope. But it was Lilian! She traveled to several cities, begging everyone she could, and found the medicine that saved me!"
"And what about you?!"
"You, my own sister, what did you do besides glance at me once outside the hospital room?!"
Grace looked at his face, twisted with rage, and felt a wave of nausea.
It was true.
She hadn't done much.
She had only locked herself in the lab for three days and nights for the sake of his nearly useless leg, poring over every medical text she could find and running hundreds of experiments. She had finally extracted a compound from a rare plant that could repair his damaged nerves.
She had only anonymously given her research findings to the attending physician, saving his leg.
And Lilian?
Mr. Hart snorted coldly. "Forget about it! As long as I'm alive, you, Grace, will always be a member of the Hart family!"
Sabrina stood with her hands on her hips, a triumphant look on her face.
"Exactly! You want to leave? In your next life, maybe! Let's see how you break away from this family without the official records!"
Grace heard their shameless words, but her face showed no trace of panic.
She even let out a small laugh.
In front of everyone, she took out her phone and made a call.
"Mr. Reed?"
"It's me, Grace."
"Yes, I'm at the Hart estate. They're refusing to give me the family register."
"Okay, thank you for your help."
After hanging up, she calmly looked at the varying expressions on the faces of the Hart family.
"I've already had my lawyer report this to the police. He says that the family register is a legal personal document, and no one can withhold it without cause. Otherwise, it's considered theft."
