David’s once handsome face was unkempt, making him look drawn. He was now in a suburban area, but Alicia was still nowhere to be seen.

So, he took his phone out and stubbornly shot her old number another text. Then, he scrolled through his social media, hoping to find even the slightest trace of her there.

Alas, his search was in vain as all he got out of it was Austin’s latest post.

He saw Austin embracing a woman. He could only see their silhouettes framed against a galaxy of glittering lights in the picture. It was so’romantic and so utterly unlike Austin. Since when did he like flaunting his love life?

Still, curiosity drove him to tap on Austin’s profile, which was when he found out that Austin had posted a couple of updates over the past few days.

There was a picture of a woman draped in a wool shawl in a meadow. The snowy mountain contrasted greatly with the colorful flower tucked behind her ear.

He could see gentle lambs grazing nearby, their wool turning a faint sheen of gold under the sunset. It was a sweet and beautiful scene.

He saw another post of the same woman gesturing enthusiastically at a pink aurora.

That mystery woman was featured in every single picture.

Austin was happily declaring his love for the world to see. Yet, David’s own lover had vanished without a

trace.

David fell to his knees as he stared up at the endless sea of stars in the sky. He ran his fingers through his hair, tugging them violently as he desperately tried to keep his mind from unraveling like a ball of yarn.

He regretted everything. If only he’d brought Alicia to meet his family sooner… If only he hadn’t been so arrogant, then maybe none of this would have happened.

“Alicia, are you looking at the same stars?” he murmured under his breath.

Suddenly, Reggie came running from afar. “David, we flubbed it!”

David turned his weary eyes to him. “What do you mean?”

“When sh*t hit the fan, I only managed to find out that Alicia had bought a ticket to Sylvoria. However, I didn’t check whether she boarded the plane,” Reggie hastily explained.

“What? What are you saying?”

“I’m saying that she never boarded that plane. She bought another ticket to… to Litchbrook. And…” Reggie

trailed off.

“And?” David pressed impatiently, feeling the last threads of his sanity snapping.

“She bought a first-class seat on the same flight you took back to Litchbrook. You would’ve bumped into her

if you’d taken that flight.”

David’s fingers tightened at the implications. “Are you telling me that Alicia… lied to me?”

Reggie sighed and replied, “Yes. It’s highly likely that she’d gone to Litchbrook for treatment. Perhaps this is her punishment for you after she found out that you cheated on her.”

“She’s in Litchbrook,” David breathed out, his eyes lighting up with joy. “I want to be on the earliest flight to Litchbrook tomorrow.”

Alicia, I’m not letting you slip through my fingers again. Please wait for me.

The past five days Alicia had been spending with Austin were the happiest days of her life.

She had long dreamed of visiting Sylvoria. Unfortunately, her work had never stopped being demanding.

Before David left for Litchbrook, she had given him one last chance. She would’ve told him everything if he had chosen to go to Sylvoria with her that day.

Sadly, he didn’t. Instead, he was in too much of a hurry to return to Litchbrook for a blind date.

That was when she finally accepted the fact that he had never planned to marry her. She was never going to be part of his future. The choice he made that day marked the end of their three-year relationship.

Regardless, she genuinely didn’t expect to find herself in another country instead of Sylvoria. What surprised her even more was that she’d found a companion in Austin, David’s uncle.

They’d only been together for a few days when she found herself kissing him beneath the northern lights and the stars. They fed lambs under snowy peaks, frolicked across a meadow, and shared a quiet moment by the beach as they felt the ocean breeze rustling through their hair.

Their bond deepened with every step they took together.

Alicia was watching a movie on their flight home when a flight attendant served her an iced orange juice with some afternoon snacks.

She was just about to take a sip of some citrusy goodness when a slender hand reached out to stop her.

“You shouldn’t be drinking anything cold for a while,” Austin said gently, his tone carrying a hint of rebuke.

“It’s fine. I used to drink iced Americanos every day. I’m totally used to it,” Alicia replied, trying to fight for her rights to a refreshing, cold drink.

“Is that so? I distinctly remember someone groaning in pain two nights ago,” he remarked dryly, swapping her drink for a glass of warm orange juice. “Here. You can have this.”

“Fine,” Alicia grumbled with a pout.

She had always had a preference for cold drinks. Still, never did she imagine that all it took was one trip back to the country, and her trial fiancé was already banning her from throwing her health away. Heck, even her father had never given a d*mn about her choices.
