From Heir's Ex to His Aunt novel Chapter 6

"His uncle?" Alicia's fingers tapped lightly on the wrapped steering wheel.

"Yes. He's been abroad all these years and never married. I heard he's coming back soon. If you marry him, you'll have a say in the Burton family. After all, he is still young and hasn't taken over the family yet—no one knows what the future holds."

The butler hinted at her.

If David's uncle ended up inheriting the Burton family, Aria and David wouldn't necessarily be in control once they married.

If David hadn't played his tricks, Alicia's hostility wouldn't have burned this strong, but now, she grinned sinisterly. He'll have to do, then.

She'd do everything to push him to the top.

Alicia had already tried chasing after love.

Since effort brought her nothing, she would cling tightly to power instead.

In this world, money was the one thing that couldn't betray a person.

Both money and power earned respect.

Meanwhile, David was still planning on keeping her shelved away in Southam.

If she became his aunt-in-law, what would he think of it?

Revenge was certainly sweet!

She needed somewhere to vent, or these three years would have been a total waste.

"Vincent, get me all the information you can on David's uncle."

"Yes, Ms. Alicia."

Just as she hung up, Alicia received a message from Aria, whom she labeled as 'The Wench'.

'I'll be meeting the Burton family's heir in three days. You were supposed to marry him, but one word from me, and Dad let me go instead. You don't mind me stealing your fiance, do you?'

She replied, 'Of course not. I hope you two tie the knot, grow old together, and have children soon.'

'Thank you for your blessing! You'll be at our wedding, right? I've seen photos of him, and he's quite the looker. I'm not sure about his character, though. You should come and help me out!'

'I'll most certainly be there.'

Alicia sneered.

The wench and the womanizer were a match made in heaven.

Since Aria wanted what was hers, she'd like to see if she could handle what she'd taken this time.

Putting her phone aside, Alicia finished up her work at the company.

By the time she left, night had already fallen.

She turned to glance back at the office tower that was home to hundreds of companies.

In three years, she had worked her way up from a small office space to an entire floor. She had poured so much of herself into work, just like what she had done with David.

Alicia had feelings for him, and it stung to be walking away from him. She had stronger self-control than most women, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt.

Still, she buried the sorrowful feeling.

This was goodbye, and she'd find better next time.

After all, there were plenty of fish in the sea, and David had never been her only option.

Upon driving home, she opened the door to find a dark house.

Rose petals were scattered on the floor, leading her along a candlelit path to the living room.

There, David stood in a suit, kneeling on one knee with a bouquet of roses in hand. "Alicia, it's my job to propose."

If she hadn't heard what he'd really said before, she might have been touched by his actions, but knowing his true colors, she only found it laughable.

How many women had he fooled before this?

She concealed her disdain and played along, not wanting to ruin his act.

"What's this, David?"

The man seemed solemn.

"Alicia Gibson, will you marry me?"

It was the most romantic proposal ever, but she could only think of that photo of him in bed with Lily.

She pretended to be emotional. "Yes!"

David slipped a luxurious seven-carat ring onto her finger, making things official.

Though she seemed rather cold, he knew she was head over heels for him.

As long as he put on a show, he could win anyone over.

Of course, he had feelings for Alicia, and this wasn't entirely an act. If only Alicia's background matched his, he would've married her right away.

Pretending to be touched by his words, Alicia let a single tear fall. "Oh, David…"
