From Heir's Ex to His Aunt novel Chapter 7

For the next two days, Alicia deliberately lingered by the teddy bear with the hidden camera, dropping a few suggestive lines now and then or covering her mouth and walking away—only to return with a suspicious smudge of blood at the corner of her lips.

Every day, she received updates from Lily, who had been spending time with David for the past two days.

No wonder he was nowhere to be found.

They went to escape rooms, went skydiving, and danced at clubs—the kind of reckless fun young people pursued.

Alicia was only three years older than David, and she was supposed to live a carefree life as an heiress.

But she was no match for the Burton family's precious golden child.

Her father, who favored a mistress and despised his wife, stopped putting on a front after Alicia's mother died.

He wasted no time in bringing his mistress back home.

If not for his father's sake, the man would've expelled Alicia from the family instead of sending her abroad.

Still, her grandfather's preference for sons left no room for princess treatment.

To survive in that loveless clan, she had to swallow her pride, prove herself by force, and show that she was not inferior to the mistress' foolish son.

Even when her three-year relationship ended in betrayal, she had no time to waste on heartbreak.

Lily finally grew bold and rang her, and Alicia knew why. She planted herself in front of the bear with a pot of flowers, put the call on speaker, and clipped its stems while she talked.

The other woman's voice came through arrogant and loud.

"You're surely putting up a fight, old bat. Do you think pretending not to know makes everything okay? You've never slept with him, right? You have no idea how long we were at it last night!"

Alicia let a single tear fall as she held the stems.

Her voice sounded lonely and small.

"Do you really love him?"

The caller froze, not expecting such a response.

She wavered slightly.

"Of course. We've known each other for a year, and I even flew from Litchbrook to see him. You saw the photos and videos—we're meant for each other."

Alicia continued, "I have a terminal illness, which means I won't last the month. If you truly love him, please take care of him for me."

There was a stunned silence, then the other woman's arrogant voice faltered. "What illness do you have?"

"Late-stage gastric cancer."

"I… I didn't know…"

"It's okay. He doesn't know either. Will you keep this a secret?"

They talked a little more.

In no time, Alicia convinced the woman to message her on WhatsApp. They continued the conversation there, and the woman believed Alicia's every word.

A few minutes later, she saw an update from her new contact she'd labeled as 'Lil Fool', saying, 'I deserve to die!'

Another fish had taken the bait.

Lily would be consumed with so much guilt that it'd leave her awake at night.

Alicia set her phone aside, trimmed the last stem, and admired the petals.

Her expression was forlorn.

"It's a pity I'll never get to see flowers this beautiful again."

That day, David came home early.

Convinced that Alicia was no longer a threat, Lily had probably felt guilty and urged David to spend more time with her.

Alicia brushed away the tears at the corners of her eyes. "You're back."

Even David, dense as he was, noticed something was wrong.

"Why are you crying again?"

She wiped her tears. "I was just thinking of my mother."

He knew she had lost her mother at a young age.

His heart ached, and he pulled her into his arms.

"Don't cry. You still have me."

He didn't even remember to change his clothes, the scent of another woman's perfume still clinging to him.

It made Alicia nauseous.

She pushed him away and looked at him with feigned tenderness.

"David, didn't you always say you wanted to travel with me? Let's go to Sylvoria tomorrow. I heard it's where the sky feels within reach."

"Tomorrow?" He frowned. "I'll be heading to Litchbrook."

"Is it something important? I've already taken time off, though. Can't you come along with me?" she asked in a small voice.

David stroked her hair.

"Yeah, something came up at home, so I have to go back. Be a good girl, alright? I'll be back in two days.

"By then, I'll take you wherever you want."

"Alright."

He claimed to love her, but in reality, David was sneaking around for cheap thrills, arranging hookups back in his hometown.

What had these three years meant to him?

Fortunately, Alicia was not some naive fool.
