Thirteen minutes later, a black Bugatti pulled through a carved stone gate framed by an intricate archway. Beyond it stood an elegant private estate, nestled in the hills.
To the west, towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls. To the east, a smooth, wide driveway lined with lights.
Surrounded by mountains and water, the location was a rare gem-something real estate agents would fight over for generations.
Seraphina glanced out the window, her gaze calm but sharp. Her eyes briefly widened. Even she had to admit it-this was no ordinary property.
The estate had perfect location… or whatever the Western equivalent was. It screamed wealth.
Even the sky above it looked different-clouds hung low, and the stars seemed close enough to touch. Some even shimmered faintly purple in the dark.
Someone here was clearly born under a very lucky star.
The car rolled to a stop in front of the main house.
Standing at the entrance was a couple in their early fifties, dressed elegantly, posture stiff with anticipation. Their eyes were fixed on the car, every second stretching like eternity.
Celestine’s eyes welled with tears even before the engine shut off. She leaned forward, trying to catch a glimpse of the backseat.
Her daughter was back. She’d waited so long to see her again.
Before Jack could get out to open the door, Gregory rushed forward, barely able to contain himself. He pulled the door open with trembling hands.
Seraphina stepped out slowly, her eyes meeting theirs for the first time.
The moment their gazes locked, her breath hitched. A strange, inexplicable feeling washed over her.
The air stilled.
She took another step, silently debating-what was she supposed to call them? “Dad”? “Mom”?
Didn’t feel right. Not yet.

But the moment her feet hit the ground, Celestine ran forward and wrapped her in a crushing hug.
It wasn’t just tight-it was desperate, like letting go wasn’t an option.
“My baby! My baby girl!” Celestine sobbed uncontrollably. “I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry…”
Seraphina stiffened, her body frozen in place. But the weight of the woman’s grief hit her hard.
Celestine touched her face over and over, like she couldn’t believe Seraphina was real. “I can’t believe I’m seeing you again,” she whispered, fingers brushing her daughter’s brows, cheeks, ears. “I’ve waited so long. You’ve suffered enough, sweetheart…”
The woman’s tears dripped down Seraphina’s arm, cold against her skin. Something cracked open in her chest.
Without even thinking, she said, “Mom… I’m okay. Really. I’m fine.”
Celestine’s eyes widened. She hadn’t expected to hear that word—not yet. Her lower lip trembled.
“Say it again?”
“Mom,” Seraphina said softly. “Please stop crying. I’m back.”
Celestine let out a shaky laugh through her tears. “Okay. Okay, no more crying…”
Her precious daughter called her Mom.
Her precious daughter told her not to cry, and she actually stopped.
Gregory stood nearby, eyes red and glassy. He reached out slowly and took her hand, almost afraid to break the moment.
She met his cautious eyes and smiled. “Hi, Dad. I’m home.”
“Oh-yes! Yes, welcome home, sweetheart!” Gregory sniffled, glancing at Celestine. “Come on, honey, let’s get her inside. Look at this sun, it’ll roast you both.” ()
“Right, right,” Celestine nodded, still holding tightly onto Seraphina’s hand as if she might disappear again.
Gregory trailed behind, practically floating. He turned to Jack.
“Get everyone in the staff hall. I want them all lined up to welcome my daughter properly.”

“Yes, sir.”
“And double everyone’s salary for the month.”
“Yes, sir.”

“Oh, and call the jewelers. I want a private auction set up. My daughter needs proper jewelry.”
He’d noticed right away-no necklace, no bracelet, not even earrings. Unacceptable.
His daughter was beautiful. She should sparkle like royalty, head to toe.
“Yes, sir,” Jack said again and rushed off to make the calls.
Inside the estate’s grand entry hall, nearly two hundred staff had assembled in neat rows, some still filing in from outside.
Jack stepped forward and gestured with a wave of his hand.
All the staff spoke in unison, “Welcome home, Miss!”
The volume shook the chandelier.
Seraphina blinked slowly and glanced at Gregory, who was clearly waiting for praise like a child showing off a finger painting.
She turned her head to the side, choosing not to react. If she encouraged this now, who knew what kind of circus she’d be dealing with every week?
After a short rest, Celestine took her on a tour of the property.
Everywhere Seraphina looked, she saw luxury-rare antiques, imported furnishings, even a garden lined with exotic herbs.
She paused at a patch of the Starshade bloom swaying in the breeze.
The Starshade bloom-an herb so rare it was nearly impossible to cultivate-grew here like ordinary lawn grass.
This place really was a treasure trove.
She wondered what Miranda would think, seeing the “hard life” she was living now.
Seraphina passed through the garden and into a separate wing of the estate, filled with antiques and collector’s pieces.

Her eyes locked on a large painting hanging in the main room.

She recognized it instantly. “The Kitherin Scroll”-her father’s signature piece from his prime.
On the market today, it would easily fetch 30 million, maybe more.
Gregory noticed where she was looking and lit up like a Christmas tree. “You like that piece? That’s mine! Well… my work, I mean. If you like it, it’s yours!”
“Um, no need. I was just looking.”
