A desperate clown trying to steal the spotlight. That’s how Seraphina saw it.

She raised a brow and gave a cool, mocking smile. “Dr. Hargrove, time to hold up your end of
the deal.”
Celina’s boldness wasn’t without reason. Theodore wasn’t in the room, so no one could force her to do anything.
She shrugged, arrogant and dismissive. “And why would I? The surgery isn’t even fully successful. The kid’s still in the ICU, barely hanging on.”
“You’re seriously trying to back out?” Ashley, unable to hold it in, called her out. “Before the surgery, you made a bet with this doctor right here. You said it yourself—if she pulled it off, you’d get down on your knees and apologize. The surgery was a success!”
“Success my *ss! The recovery’s still risky. The only reason she pulled this off was because the director backed her. Let’s see what happens with the follow-up in three days. Can she guarantee that’ll go perfectly too?”
Celina wasn’t budging. She clung to the idea that the surgery didn’t count.
The smugness on her face was infuriating. Some of the doctors around couldn’t stay silent.
“Stop twisting the truth. Anyone with a pulse can see this was a complete success.”
“Exactly. A hundred out of a hundred would say so. You made a promise. Time to own it.”
Celina had spent years pushing people around, hiding behind Theodore. Now that his shield was gone, the crowd didn’t hesitate to turn on her.
But she wasn’t the type to be scared off easily. She sneered as she glanced around.
“What can any of you even do? You’ve got no talent, no skills. Don’t act like you’re better than me.”
“You-” a young nurse started.
“You what? You want my job? Beat my title first! I’m an attending physician. You’re a bottom- of-the-ladder nurse. Know your place.”
Celina embodied every trait of a power-drunk bully: loud, condescending, and shameless.

Chapter 9 Mr Drayven
:.
No one could do anything. They just stood there, seething in silence.
Seraphina’s eyes narrowed. She was about to step forward…

Suddenly, uniformed officers pushed past the crowd. Before anyone could react, they grabbed Celina’s arms and turned her around, cuffing her wrists. She stumbled, lost her balance, and hit the floor hard.
“Don’t move. You’re under investigation for assault and medical malpractice. You’ll need to come with us.”
“I-I didn’t do anything! I’m being framed!” Celina cried out, her voice shaking from both pain and panic.
“Whether that’s true or not, we’ll find out at the station.”
Celina’s eyes darted around, then locked onto Seraphina. “You! You set me up!”
Seraphina stepped forward, calm and unbothered.
“You covered up a major medical error. You tried to force a patient out of the hospital to dodge liability-fully aware it would cost them their life.” Her voice was sharp and cold. “You weren’t framed. You’re just getting what you deserve.”
“Lies! You’re lying through your teeth!”
Seraphina tilted her head slightly.
“Oh, I’m lying? Fine. Then let’s let the judge decide.”
A nine-year-old kid was hanging on by a thread, and Celina had written him off like it was nothing.
Absolutely inexcusable.
Celina’s rage hit a boiling point-but just as she was about to explode again, she looked up. Her eyes lit up.
Theodore had finally shown up.
Tears welled in her eyes as she shouted, “Professor! Help me!”
She knew Theodore had serious connections, even in law enforcement. If anyone could get her out of this mess, it was him. She wasn’t ready to fall-not when she still had so much power left to enjoy.

But then she froze.
Theodore had handcuffs on too.
Several officers flanked him as they stepped into the room.

With his influence, he could easily smooth this over, turn a major issue into nothing more than a minor misunderstanding.
She could not afford to fall.
She had to stay at the hospital, keep her position, keep enjoying that rush of being on top and the status that came with it.
Then in the very next second, she froze. Theodore was standing there in handcuffs.
Several police officers were right behind him.
“Professor…?” she whispered, voice trembling.
And just like that, her last lifeline was gone. The cold grip of fear dragged her under. Seraphina turned slightly, catching movement beside her. Her eyes flicked toward Cassian.
He stood tall, composed, backlit by the fluorescent lights, every line of his face chiseled to perfection. She blinked, momentarily caught off guard. What the h*ll?
Cassian turned toward her, catching her gaze. Their eyes met.
Seraphina looked away and said flatly, “Not bad. You’re quick.”
Cassian’s eyes crinkled with amusement. “I do my best,” he said.
He had already ordered Victor to investigate everything while driving to the hospital. When Theodore tried to flee to the airport, police picked him up on the spot.
Still, Cassian knew-even if he hadn’t gotten involved-Seraphina would’ve handled it. She always did.
She stood there, effortlessly poised, but there was nothing passive about her. She exuded power, confidence and control.
She didn’t have to say a word. She commanded the room just by being in it.
He felt something shift inside him. Something stir.

By now, Alaric had returned, just in time to see Theodore and Celina being escorted out. He sighed, his face heavy with disappointment, and told the officers he would fully cooperate with their investigation.
“Director! Please-” Celina begged, struggling against the cuffs.
It was pointless.
She passed by Seraphina one last time, hissing through clenched teeth, “Why? Why are you doing this to me?”
A future full of promise, gone in one day-all because of her.
How could she not hate her?
Seraphina’s voice was low and calm. “You did this to yourself. Don’t blame me. Doctors are respected because they save lives-not because they think they’re above them. You don’t deserve your title.”
Applause broke out from the staff nearby. It wasn’t loud, but it was sincere.
Eyes lit with admiration turned to Seraphina.
Cassian’s gaze narrowed. His dark eyes held something unreadable… maybe even intrigued.
After a beat, he held out his phone.
“Add me on WhatsApp.”
Seraphina didn’t think much of it. Patients’ families had every right to contact doctors. She scanned his code and added him.
“What’s your name?” Cassian asked.
