Chapter 36 Fallout
“Get them,” Victor shouted.
The bodyguards surged out of the room in unison, sprinting after the two men.
Viola threw herself into Cassian’s arms, crying hard.
$20 Free Cona
“I was terrified,” she sobbed. “I just came to the auction to buy something for Grandma, and those men suddenly rushed me like animals.”
She clutched him tighter. “You have to protect me.”
Cassian disengaged smoothly, pushing her back without leaving a mark. His voice was cold. “How did you know I was here?”
Viola’s eyes flickered, then she steadied herself. “I was in the main hall. I saw you get off the elevator.”
Suspicion flashed through Cassian’s dark gaze. He shifted farther away from her.
“You hurt.”
“My heel,” Viola said softly, sniffing. She lifted her reddened ankle on purpose.
He barely touched it. She shrieked as if in pain.
“I have someone take you home.”
“Okay. Thank you.”
At the same moment, the auctioneer’s voice rang out, electric with excitement. “Congratulations to the diamond suite on securing the Lunaria Core. Thank you all for attending. This concludes tonight’s
auction.”
Cassian froze.
Then he slammed his fist into the armrest and shot to his feet, storming out of the room.
Viola jumped in alarm and tried to follow, but Victor stopped her.
“I… did I mess something up,” she asked timidly.
For the first time, Victor actually found her tolerable. He/smiled and reassured her.
“Not at all. If anything, you saved Mr. Drayven from losing a fortune. You’re his lucky break.”
“Really?”
Viola’s eyes widened. When Victor nodded firmly, she lowered her head with a shy smile.
By the time Cassian reached the diamond suite, it was empty. Not a soul in sight.

The fruit platter inside had been nearly wiped clean. Definitely two people who ate like it was their last
meal.
A faint, lingering scent hung in the air.
Cassian inhaled slowly, and without warning, Seraphina’s determined crescent eyes flashed through his mind. Bright and unyielding.
Inside the Bentley, Victor drove.
Viola finally got what she wanted, sitting beside Cassian. She kept sneaking glances at him, smiling to herself.
Victor checked the rearview mirror. “Did you manage to win anything at the auction?”
That did it. Viola lit up instantly. She pulled the relic-bound charm bracelet from her bag and held it up proudly.
“Cassian, I got this for Grandma. What do you think. Worth it, right.”
Victor blurted out, “Wait, you bought that?”
Cassian shot him a look. Victor shut up immediately, grumbling inside. The biggest sucker of the entire
auction.
She looked sharp enough, so how was her judgment this bad.
“Do you think Grandma will like it?” Viola asked.
Cassian’s expression softened slightly. “You picked it. She’ll love it.”
They had grown up together, after all. There was real affection there.
