Chapter 38 Quiet Schemes
Chapter 38 Quiet Schemes
Celestine let out a heavy sigh and left.
She turned the situation over in her mind again and again. Eventually, she decided it might be time to arrange proper introductions for the younger generation.
Dating with marriage in mind. Let them learn what relationships actually meant. Better that than letting them crash headfirst into heartbreak later.
Once the thought took hold, Celestine moved quickly.
That evening on Southbridge Avenue, a taxi eased to the curb, and Seraphina stepped out with Tyler right behind her.
Asha had been called home for something urgent and couldn’t join them.
Seraphina needed to pick up a few things, so she called Tyler along to help carry bags. They entered a
bank first.
The lobby was quiet, nearly empty. A few counters were open.
A security guard approached and asked what they needed. Upon hearing they were withdrawing cash, he guided them to the appropriate window.
Seraphina was striking. Every movement carried a natural sense of composure and distance.
Heads turned around the lobby.
She remained indifferent, unaware that someone across the street had noticed her through a car window. That gaze followed her the entire time, until she and Tyler left the bank and turned into a nearby medicine shop.
The Voidflame Herb was secured. What remained were supporting ingredients.
At Tyler’s suggestion, they chose the largest Valedawn chain medicine store. Bigger store, higher prices, but quality was reliable.
The moment they walked in, Sabrina was leaning against the counter, clearly in a foul mood.
Just minutes earlier, Viola had unloaded complaints at her in their private group chat. Two other Valedawn socialites were in the group as well, and their attitudes toward her had cooled noticeably. Deliberate distance.
Hearing the door chime, Sabrina looked up. Her eyes locked onto the newcomers. She recognized her instantly. Seraphina. The daughter the Drayven family had just brought back.
Viola had shown her photos before. Even back then, it had irritated her. How could someone look that flawless.
Insecurity, jealousy, resentment, all tangled together. That face burned into her memory.

Chapter 38 Quiet Schemes
Viola hated her returned sister.
And Sabrina did too. More accurately, she envied her.
How did someone like her get everything. A face that flawless, and a life handed to her on a silver platter. born straight into obscene wealth.
It made Sabrina’s stomach twist.
Because of the suggestions she’d made earlier, Viola had already started resenting Seraphina, clearly turning against her. The tension was there now, simmering.
If she played this right, if she humiliated that woman just enough, caught it on video, and sent it to Viol it would smooth things over immediately. Viola would be pleased. Their friendship would fall back
into place.
The thought settled in.
Sabrina’s eyes sharpened. She leaned toward the clerk beside her and spoke under her breath. “Wait for my cue.”
The clerk gave a subtle nod.
A moment later, she stepped forward with a professional smile. “Hi there. What can I help you with today?”
“One pound each of Heartleaf Herb, Citrus Bark, and Sweetbay Laurel,” Seraphina said.
