Chapter 44 Red Roses

Chapter 44 Red Roses

The three of them parted ways at the hotel entrance.

Soft music played in the car. Cassian glanced over at the girl beside him more than once, then suddenly pulled over.

She looked at him, confused.

“Wait a moment.”

He got out of the car and walked toward a flower stand by the roadside. The vendor was a little girl. The two exchanged a few words.

Soon, he came back holding a large bouquet of red roses.

Too much.

If he weren’t good looking, it would have looked ridiculous.

He handed them to her. “They didn’t have other colors. And they’re not very fresh.”

She frowned slightly. “If you’re not satisfied, why buy them?”

Cassian restarted the car. “It’s late. A little girl selling flowers alone on the street isn’t safe. The sooner she sells out, the sooner she can go home.”

He paused, then added, “And I once read that when a man gives flowers, the important part is being seen carrying them. Facing the looks. That’s how you show sincerity. I want you to know I’m serious.”

Seraphina fell silent.

Twenty eight years old. A clear generational gap. And somehow, he could say something this painfully old fashioned with a straight face.

She tried to process it. Failed.

Her tone stayed lazy. “Okay. Got it.”

It was exactly the reaction he expected, but Cassian still took a direct hit. The heir of the Drayven tamuly. the head of Stratmoor Group, repeatedly ignored by a young woman.

The car soon reached its destination. After saying goodbye, Seraphina walked into the cafe

Cassian did not leave right away. He watched until her figure disappeared from view.

First the auction. Then traditional medicine in the evening. Now back to the cafe. She had mentioned picking something up.

Each thing seemed unrelated, yet somehow connected.

Chapter 44 Red Roses

To him, she was a puzzle. Impossible to read. Impossible not to want to look closer

“Zachary, Cassian said into his phone. “Check a café for me. Everline Avenue The name is Im the Boss Cafe

Zachary sounded miserable. “Cassian, just come over already. Because you didn’t show up. Josh is completely drunk and out of control. Hey, hey, why are you grabbing my phone? Josh

The line switched. Josh’s voice came through, exaggerated and dramatic. “Cassian, it’s me. You don’t love me anymore.

“My heart hurts.

“Tell me, which woman stole you away and ruined my welcome party?”

Cassian’s throat tightened. He hung up without another word.

Cold intent flickered in his dark eyes. That kid is asking for it.

Some time later, Josh lay on the ground for the thirty first time, face bruised and swollen. Cassian stood over him, expression hard. “Get up.”

Zachary rested his chin on his hand, watching with interest. “I’d say Cassian’s got some unresolved frustration.”

Understandable. He was at that age, after all.

Elliot Thatcher patted Zachary on the shoulder, confused. “What did Josh even do? How did he deserve

this?”

“Nothing too terrible,” Zachary replied. “He just said three words.”

Wesley leaned in. “Which three?”
