Chapter 43 Late Night Call
Chapter 43 Late Night Call
Cassian picked up his jacket and draped it over her shoulders, his voice gentle. “The AC’s a bit strong. Don’t
catch a cold.”
He scooped a bowl of chicken broth and set it in front of her. “Want me to take care of it for you?”
This was a luxury hotel. One of the rules was clear, no pets allowed inside.
She took the bowl from him, her fingers brushing against his cool skin. “No need. It’s nothing.”
Cassian respected her choice and sat back down. His phone rang.
“Cassian, get over here,” Zachary said urgently. “Josh just got back from overseas. Everyone’s here except you.”
“You guys have fun,” Cassian replied, meaning he was not coming.
“Cassian, what’s wrong with you?” Zachary pressed. “Josh just got back. How long has it been since all of us hung out? Get over here. We’re waiting.”
The other end of the call was loud and chaotic.
Someone was yelling from a distance, shouting at the top of his lungs, “When’s Cassian getting here? I miss him like crazy.”
It was Josh Hawthorne. He had been abroad and had just returned today. The group was throwing a welcome party, and Cassian was the only one missing.
“I’m with my wife,” Cassian said flatly. “Not coming. I’m hanging up.”
The call cut off.
Zachary froze, his expression struck dumb, his mouth twitching uncontrollably.
Wife? He has a wife now?
Josh, dressed flashily as ever, jogged over, grinning. “So, when’s Cassian coming?”
Zachary was still in shock, staring at him in disbelief. “Josh, you seriously ditch friends the second there’s a woman involved?”
Josh’s eyes went wide. “What? Who is it? Who dared steal Cassian from us?”
Outside the Luelle Grand Hotel, Leonard and Miranda smiled politely as they saw Damian’s parents off.
The car had already driven far down the road, but the couple kept waving, smiles plastered on their faces, until the vehicle disappeared completely.
Only then did they finally lower their hands.

Miranda’s expression darkened with worry. “We ran into Seraphina today. That girl followed us all the way to Valedawn. There’s no way she came with good intentions.”
Léonard frowned as well. “You could tell at the table. Damian’s mother was extremely pleased with Lyanna’s Spring Banquet in Autumn’s Twilight. If she ever finds out it wasn’t…”
He stopped short, wary of nearby ears.
Miranda’s face twisted. “That girl still has a decent relationship with you. Find time to meet her. Talk it out As long as she doesn’t ruin Lyanna’s marriage, everything’s negotiable.”
The Roth family was the support they had finally climbed up to. And Damian and Lyanna clearly liked each other.
During dinner, Miranda had watched carefully. Lyanna was gentle, soft spoken, leaning close. Damian was completely taken in.
They looked like a perfect match.
As long as Seraphina stayed out of it, Lyanna would marry rich, get her foothold in Valedawn, and be set for life.
Leonard gave a firm nod. For him, putting down roots in Valedawn and finally making the family name count-that was the dream. No one was allowed to get in the way.
Meanwhile, Seraphina set her cutlery down, clearly satisfied. Cassian glanced at the time. “It’s getting late. I’ll take you back.”
“No need.” Seraphina pulled out her phone, scrolling through WhatsApp as she spoke, then started a voice call. “Asha, I’ll come by later to pick it up.”
