Chapter 72 Tension Rising
“No need,” Seraphina said calmly. “This isn’t for you. It’s for Seraphina.”

Alaric sucked in a sharp breath, clearly furious. If Cassian weren’t still useful at the moment, he would have seriously considered launching him straight into space.
He made a mental note to call Gregory later and file a formal complaint.
Dragging kids into trouble was bad enough. Dragging a young girl into it was even worse.
Annoyed and done with the situation, Alaric stormed out of the conference room, wanting the whole thing out of sight.
“So where to now?” Cassian asked, genuinely curious.
Seraphina didn’t answer. She lowered her gaze and noticed his well-defined hand still holding onto hers. “Your hand?”
Cassian looked at her with complete sincerity, even a hint of grievance. “Not done yet?”
Seraphina fell silent. Does he have no shame at all?
“Really soft,” Cassian added with a satisfied smile, his expression openly pleased.
Victor stood nearby, completely horrified.
What?Mr. Drayven acting cute?
That alone was shocking enough, but that expression on his face was downright inappropriate.
Was this about to turn into something he absolutely should not be present for?
Should he quietly excuse himself and maybe even close the door behind them?
“Stop.”
Victor had just turned when Seraphina called out. Her voice was steady. “Where do you think you’re going?”
Victor’s smile twitched. She was terrifying. Did she read minds?
He forced a laugh, trying to smooth things over. “Restroom.”
Seraphina didn’t call him out. She raised a brow and said evenly, “Find a nurse. Get two sets of sterile
gowns.”
“Yes, right away,” Victor replied.
He froze for half a second, then nodded rapidly and hurried off. He disappeared fast, like he’d never been

there at all.
“I need to go to the ICU,” Seraphina said, finally finishing her sentence. “Can you let go of my hand?”
“I’m going too,” Cassian said immediately, making his stance clear.
At the Drayven residence, Gregory and Celestine were growing increasingly anxious. It was late, and their daughter still hadn’t come home.
Viola entered the living room, her expression tense and conflicted. “Uncle, Aunt… there’s something I didn’t want to say, but I really can’t hide it anymore.”
The couple stiffened. What happened? Had their daughter been bullied? Or was something worse going on?
“Viola, what is it?” Celestine urged. “Just say it.”
“Seraphina got into a fight at school today,” Viola said.
Celestine stared. “What?”
Viola felt a surge of satisfaction but masked it with worry. “If I’d been there, I would’ve stopped her. But she lost her temper and hit a classmate. His name is Ethan. The Sable family has influence in Valedawn. This could cause trouble for our family.”
Only then did Celestine fully process it. Seraphina had hit someone. She hadn’t been hurt herself.
Gregory and Celestine exchanged a glance and visibly relaxed.
Celestine smiled, completely unconcerned. “If she hit someone, she hit someone. As long as Seraphina’s not hurt, that’s all that matters.”
Gregory waved his hand decisively. “Exactly. Who cares about the Sable family? If they don’t know their place, they can disappear from Valedawn altogether.”
Viola froze. A second later, anger surged through her body, making her hands tremble.
Still unwilling to give up, she spoke casually, “Seraphina probably won’t be coming home tonight.”
The couple looked at her in surprise. “Why not?”
Was their daughter planning to stay on campus because they were too nagging?
“After school, she got into a luxury car right at the school gate,” Viola said. “People are talking everywhere. They’re saying she’s doing it for money…”
She didn’t finish the sentence. She didn’t need to.
