From Wife to Aunt: His Worst Nightmare novel Chapter 25

Chapter 25

1/3

Seeing the frenzy of fans outside the car window, Isabel shrank into Steve’s arms as if spooked by the sight.

Her voice was soft, yet laced with a hint of pride as she explained to me, “Ms. Yaxley, I’m

really sorry. I was filming an advertisement here today for Steve’s company. Unfortunately, the fans were just too enthusiastic. Steve’s car was sent to pick up my mother, so we’ll have to trouble you to take us home.”

So, Charlotte Miller, Isabel’s mother and Steve’s future mother-in-law, was here as well.

For the sake of my job at Quill Media, I pushed down my irritation and slowly pulled the car out, driving as smoothly as I could.

Several cars tailed mine. Wherever I went, they followed closely.

With a troubled look, Isabel said, “Steve, if they keep following us like this, they’ll definitely find out where I live. My privacy will be compromised.”

Suddenly, Steve turned to me and said, “Zara, pull over.”

I thought they planned to get out right here to avoid revealing their address.

But the moment I parked by the roadside, Steve commanded, “Give your clothes to Isabel, then drive away.”

I froze, staring at him in disbelief.

He truly didn’t care about me at all.

Seeing my reluctance, he added, “She’s a celebrity, and you’re just an ordinary person. Those fans aren’t targeting you. You won’t be in danger.”

Just then, Isabel grasped my hand and begged with a pitiful look, “Please, Ms. Yaxley. Help me just this once, okay? I don’t mind myself, but if my privacy is compromised, it wouldn’t be good for Steve or Dorothy.”

Through the rearview mirror, my gaze met Steve’s dark, indifferent eyes.

“Don’t even think about it, Steve. Push me any further, and the two of you can get out of the car together!” I warned.

I was practically grinding my teeth.

I couldn’t understand how a person’s heart could be so cold.

I thought that as long as I refused, Steve wouldn’t be able to do anything to me.

However, his lips parted, and the words that followed were just filled with cruelty. “From this moment on, I’ll have them shut down Leah’s life support equipment. When you switch clothes with Isabel, the equipment will be turned back on.”

That equipment was what kept my mother alive, yet he could order it stopped without a second thought.

In the end, I was forced to give in.

Just like that, Isabel changed into my clothes and got out of the car, successfully slipping past the swarm of fans.

Surprisingly, Steve stayed in the car.

I gripped the steering wheel tightly and continued driving down the road, but my tears poured uncontrollably, silently covering my face.

The hardness in Steve’s expression eased slightly as he finally explained, “She’s Dorothy’s mother. I can’t let anything happen to her.”

I sniffled and asked, “Steve, when are you going to make her your legitimate wife?”

Even as I remembered the lawyer’s warning not to alert Steve, I couldn’t stop myself from wanting to escape this marriage.

In the rearview mirror, his dark eyes were unreadable as he said impatiently, “That’s not something you need to worry about.”

Then, he added, “Drop me off at the next intersection. After that, drive somewhere else. Remember not to expose the home address.”

I honestly admired Steve for protecting the people he cared about meticulously, covering all grounds.

Meanwhile, I was the one who could be discarded at any time.

After Steve got out of the car, I turned the wheel and drove aimlessly along the roads.
