From Wife to Aunt: His Worst Nightmare novel Chapter 37

Chapter 37

Seeing that she couldn’t hide it from me anymore, Juliet said angrily, “After you called me at noon, I rushed over. Steve was there too. At first, I even thought he was acting like a decent human being for once!

“But then that bitch, Isabel, showed up, trying to lure Steve away. I couldn’t hold it in anymore, so I….I slapped Isabel across the face.”

My heart clenched as I asked urgently, “Then how did you get hurt?”

Juliet snorted. “With that skeleton – thin body of hers, how could she beat me? Steve shoved me, and I fell. By chance, my head smashed right into the seatback next to me. In the end, that bastard still went off with that bitch. I’m so pissed!”

“Steve laid hands on you?” I was seething with murderous rage.

It was one thing if he treated me that way, but he even bullied

but he even bullied my best friend.

What did we ever do wrong? Why did we deserve this kind of punishment?

Afraid that I’d get too worked up right after surgery, Juliet hurried to calm me down. “It’s okay. It’s only another half a month. Once your mother’s life-saving equipment is officially on the market, you can slap the divorce agreement right in his face. There’s no need to waste even a single word on him.”

She was actually far more hot-tempered than I was. Yet now, after suffering such a huge injustice herself, she was still comforting me.

My nose stung, and I choked up. “Juliet… I’m sorry for dragging you into this.”

“You dummy. Why are you saying that?”

Juliet ruffled my hair and changed the subject. “By the way, about what you said before about Steve going to see a psychiatrist. I hired a private investigator to look into it. All I found out was that the psychologist is a world-renowned expert.

“He doesn’t usually practice at that hospital and only comes by once a week, on Saturdays. Patient information is kept extremely confidential. Other than the psychologist himself, no one knows anything.”

I sighed. “That fits Steve’s usual behavior, being meticulous in all aspects. If he’s determined to hide something, there won’t be a single trace left behind.”

Growing even more curious, Juliet asked, “You and Steve grew up together. You should know

him pretty well. When do you think he developed psychological problems?”

I shook my head. “He really doesn’t seem like someone with psychological issues at all.”

Juliet said, “If you can’t figure it out, then stop thinking about it. Anyway, it doesn’t really affect your divorce. How’s the evidence the lawyer asked you to prepare coming along?”

I replied, “DNA samples are manageable. Isabel and Dorothy both live in my house now, so I can easily find a chance to get some hair or nail clippings. But Steve’s assets… they’re just too vast. What I know is barely a drop in the ocean. It’s hard to investigate.”

Juliet exclaimed, “Then why didn’t you say so earlier? If you’d told me sooner, I would’ve contacted Ms. Keenan to help us figure something out! You’ll be divorced in half a month. This stuff needs to be checked quickly. Otherwise, when the divorce happens, you might get nothing, and all the benefits will go to the mistress and the illegitimate child.”

As she spoke, I had already taken out my phone and called Hillary Keenan.

I told her about the difficulties I was facing in gathering evidence, and she said, “I can arrange for someone to investigate your husband’s assets for you. As for the DNA testing, you’ll have to handle that part yourself.”

We were still talking when the door lock clicked, and Steve suddenly walked in.

I jumped in fright and quickly slid my phone under the pillow.

Juliet stepped in front of me like she was facing an enemy. “What are you doing here?”
