Chapter 38
I was furious and instinctively tried to get out of bed to chase after Juliet.
However, I forgot that I’d just had surgery on my foot. The moment my right foot touched the ground, my whole body pitched forward.
Just as I thought I was about to hit the floor, Steve wrapped an arm around my waist.
In the next second, he scooped me up in his arms.
I was extremely weak after surgery. I struggled a little, but there was no way I could break free.
He didn’t put me down until he’d placed me back on the bed.
Fuming, I demanded, “Why did you do that to Juliet?”

“Instigating?”
I found those words he said so solemnly to be utterly ridiculous.
I shot back, “Does our relationship even need any instigation? Steve Griffin, don’t you have any self-awareness at all? What exactly have you done? Is Isabel just visiting our house for

I fell silent. I truly didn’t want to say another word to him. I was exhausted and fed up with
this conversation.
Just then, Steve’s phone rang.
After he answered, I vaguely heard Jake’s voice on the other end.
Steve’s tone quickly turned serious. “Why? Weren’t we supposed to sign the contract on Friday?”
I didn’t hear what was said next, but his voice sounded solemn. “Look into it. Who exactly is the boss behind them? They’ve got quite the nerve daring to stand Griffin Group up like this.”
Listening to him, I suddenly thought of the man who had taken me to the hospital earlier that

day.
Just who was he to disregard Steve?
In Hevark, Griffin Group was already a top-tier enterprise.
It wasn’t just in business. Even in politics, people had to pay Steve some respect.
Though I couldn’t make sense of it, seeing the worry etched on Steve’s face brought me a small sense of satisfaction.
