Simone had even caused a scene over this necklace. As such, she remembered it clearly.
Feeling bitter, she snapped, "Why aren't you saying anything, Catherine? First, you stole my husband. And now you're even stealing something from the Griffin family! Tell me, where did that come from?"
Henry stepped up beside Catherine, his smile mocking. "I bought it for my mom from a luxury boutique. However, it is the same piece Steve bid on at the auction years ago. The boutique owner mentioned the original owner was under financial strain and had no choice but to sell it for cash."
Simone immediately shot back, "Impossible! The Griffin family has assets. Why would we ever need to sell jewelry for cash?"
Henry deliberately widened his eyes in exaggeration. "Impossible? Then how is it that I heard Griffin Group delayed paying its workers and drove someone to suicide as a result? And didn't your stock price dip around the same time?
"There's no shame in being short on cash, Simone. You could've borrowed from me. I have plenty! No need to pawn off jewelry, right?"
Simone probably never imagined that she'd ever be associated with the words "short on cash" in this lifetime.
What stung wasn't just the humiliation from Henry. It was the feud between her and Catherine, which had long since turned into an all-out war.
Back then, Simone had wanted that purple sapphire necklace more than anything. And now, it was hanging around her sworn enemy's neck.
One could only imagine how she felt.
Even the sales assistant was shamelessly spectating on the side.
Henry reminded, "Are you done watching the show, miss? If you're done, go bring out the custom jewelry I ordered."
Embarrassed at being caught, the sales assistant hurried off.
Simone was humiliated beyond measure. She immediately realized that I was the one who sold it off. She shot me a vicious gaze and pointed at me. "You've really outdone yourself, Zara. I can't believe you're embarrassing the Griffin family like this!"
I looked at her indifferently. "That's not right, is it? Don't you already have a future daughter-in-law? So what exactly am I to the Griffin family now? What does whatever I do have to do with you?"
Seeing Simone left completely speechless, Juliet smiled and added deliberately, "Oh my, a family that has to pawn jewelry for cash still has the nerve to come buy new pieces? Since you like that set so much, an old hag like you can go ahead and take it.
I was afraid that he'd threaten me with my mom again, so I figured I'd bite the bullet for the last week and just endure it.
In the end, Juliet and I returned to the Griffin villa without stopping for dinner.
We both knew exactly why Steve was calling me back so urgently. It had to be Simone going straight to him to complain after being humiliated in the mall earlier.
On the way back, Juliet grew worried. "Do you think he found something out? If he realizes that we've been contacting a lawyer and gathering evidence for a divorce behind his back, he'll never let you go."
"It probably has nothing to do with the divorce." I thought for a moment before explaining, "He always assumed that I would never leave andthat I'd cling to my position as Mrs. Griffin. It would never occur to him that I might actually plan to divorce him.
"Most likely, he just wants to ask me about the purple sapphire necklace."
Worried, Juliet asked, "What are you going to tell him then?"
I looked at her, expressionless. "The truth."
