From Wife to Aunt: His Worst Nightmare novel Chapter 65

Once I returned to my room, Juliet gave me a call. She sounded nervous when she spoke. "Are you home? I'm coming over. I need to tell you something important."

I had assumed that she wanted to tell me about Isabel's birthday photos on Instagram. She must have noticed the engagement gift Steve gave me around her neck.

But after Juliet arrived, she discreetly asked, "Steve isn't home, right?"

"He's not. He just went to his office." I replied, "Isabel and Dorothy are also out. What's wrong?"

Juliet let out a relieved sigh. "That's great. The DNA test results are out. That's what I'm here for."

My eyes lit up. "Then I finally have solid grounds for the divorce. All that's left is Steve's asset disclosure, right?"

"Well… There's a problem."

Juliet continued, "The DNA test results show that Isabel and Dorothy aren't biologically related."

I stared at her in shock. "How's that possible? Are you sure?"

Juliet nodded. "I asked the lab the same thing, but they're certain the samples weren't mixed up. The two of them aren't related at all."

My mind went blank.

Dorothy… isn't Isabel's biological daughter? But she is still Steve's?

None of it made sense to me.

Suddenly, Juliet exclaimed, "I've got it! What if Dorothy had been born through a surrogate? Isabel was worried about ruining her figure and getting caught by paparazzi. She's vain and manipulative, so it wouldn't be beneath her."

I shook my head. "I'm not sure. Steve is pretty traditional. I can't see him agreeing to surrogacy."

Juliet and I cracked our heads together for a long time, but nothing added up.

In the end, we decided to talk to Hillary.

To avoid anyone in the villa becoming suspicious, Juliet and I deliberately chose a cafe far away to meet Hillary.

She said, "We've nearly completed the investigation into your husband's assets. At this point, we've only uncovered what's visible on the surface, but even half of that would let you live very comfortably for the rest of your life. Any updates on the DNA test?"

I told Hillary everything we knew so far. She was clearly taken aback.

"Otherwise, given your husband's connections and influence, it'll be hard for you to gain the upper hand in this divorce."

I understood what Hillary meant, but it didn't make things any easier.

It had been difficult enough to get a sample of Isabel's hair the last time. Now that my mobility is limited, how was I supposed to get another?

Just then, a voice sounded from behind us. "Hillary."

Hillary froze. Juliet and I turned around at the same time, and our hearts dropped.

Steve was also in this cafe, walking over with a man I didn't recognize. Worse, that man clearly knew Hillary.

He smiled and explained to Steve, "She's a lawyer too, one of my colleagues."

When Steve learned that Hillary was a lawyer, his gaze landed on me, and my scalp prickled under the weight of it.

On the table before us lay the DNA report for Isabel and Dorothy. Even sealed in its envelope, it was apparent that this was a meeting with a lawyer.

I held my breath as my heartbeat quickened.
