Chapter 158
They’re behind those double doors for hours.
The rest of the pack has started coming back to their homes, on Walker’s orders. He sent a few warriors out to clean up the mess of Amy’s father, since we didn’t have time.
The sun came up and we’re still waiting. No news is good news, right?
I look over at Liam when I hear his phone start ringing. He’s still sitting in the same position, watching the doors. And he makes no move to answer his phone.
We all know who it is, and I can understand why he doesn’t want to answer it, but he has to. They’ll think we’re all dead if he doesn’t.
I crouch in front of him, and his eyes slowly move to mine. “I can’t.” He croaks out, like it physically pains him to talk. I nod my head and hold out my hand for his phone.
He slowly moves his hand and grabs his phone from his pocket handing it over to me, when the line cuts off. I’m about to call back when it rings again.
I stand up and walk outside, not sure if it’ll be the kids or not, and not wanting Liam to have to think about that right now.
My finger slides across the screen and I answer, thanking the Goddess when I see Alpha John’s face. His face goes pale when he sees me.
“Are the kids around?” I ask, not wanting them to have to hear what I’m about to say. Alpha shakes his head no, still looking like a ghost. “Liam’s okay.” I say, just to hopefully get that look off his face.
And while it lifts some, not all. “But?” He asks, obviously knowing there’s more.
“Amy.” I croak out as tears start to form in my eyes. “Shit.” He curses and looks down. “We haven’t gotten confirmation, but they’ve been working on her for hours. She was stabbed with a silver knife, which they think was spelled to accelerate the poison. Hazel’s been trying to find a way to stop it but hasn’t found anything. Liam’s… Not in a good place.” I add in explanation of why I’m taking the call.
He nods, understanding. Then puts his head in his hands. “Her father?” He finally speaks, after what feels like eternity. “Dead.” I growl, thankful one good thing happened.
It’s not exactly what we planned, but at least he’s out of our lives for good now. One worry down.
“Thank the Goddess for that.” Alpha says and my lips twitch as I nod my head. “Okay, well. Fuck. The kids are going to know something’s up. They woke up asking to talk to them.” He tells me and I sigh.
“Amy’s pretty adamant about telling them the truth, maybe just don’t scare them. We still don’t know for sure what’s going on. But if something happens, they deserve to know.” I tell him, knowing one hundred percent that’s what Amy would want.
She’s always refused to leave them in the dark, like her mother did to her. And as far as I’m concerned, she’s done one hell of a job raising them. So, I won’t be questioning her.
He nods, “We’ll be home soon.” He says and I nod. No point telling him to stay the threat is gone and this is still

his pack. We hang up and I head back inside.
Slipping Liam’s phone into my pocket, knowing I’ll have to be the one to answer if he gets another call anyway.
When I walk back inside, it’s chaos. Liam’s laying on the ground clutching his chest, while everyone moves around him trying to help.
I freeze on the spot. No.
I look towards the double doors then back at Liam. We make eye contact, and his are so wide. He felt it.
I run for the doors, charging through them, even while the nurses try to stop me, I hear Mia yell for me, but I don’t stop, and I don’t turn around.
I get to her room, by following the sea of nurses coming and going from there frantically. I pause when I enter, clutching my chest and falling on the nearest wall, sliding down.
