Chapter 321
“Did your parents ever figure out why the Moon man wanted you so bad?” I ask, after he tells me parts of the story I’ve never heard before.

My heart hammers in my chest at the thought of the Moon man wanting Griffon and Heather so bad. And the fact that he wanted them at a certain age.
He didn’t want them as babies.
Griffon shakes his head, “No. I think they were just happy it was over. I don’t think they kept looking, and if they did, I don’t think they ever found anything.
I nod, my eyes far away as I think about the possibility that this could mean something good. Griffon’s eyes narrow, “What?” He asks, and I turn back to him. “What if we could pause this whole thing?” I ask him, and the confusion on his face deepens. “How?”
I swallow. I don’t think Amy wants everyone knowing about the baby, but I already unknowingly told Liam, and I really need to work this out.
“He didn’t want you til what? Six, Seven. Right?” I ask, and he shrugs. “Somewhere around there, I think.” He answers and I nod. “So, say your mom was pregnant, if the witch knew about it. She’d put everything on pause, right?” I ask.
His eyes narrow. “I mean essentially… Maybe. But it’s not like she can get pregnant. Dad is barely allowed to be next to her. There’s no way…” He sees the look in my eyes, his head starts to shake. “You can’t be serious…” He pauses, I can see the thoughts turning in his mind. “Her freak out. That’s when she found out. It wasn’t because of the witch… She was scared. Scared of the witch finding out. Scared of having to be pregnant again while this is happening.” He looks at me, and all I can do is look at him sympathetically.
I’m sometimes forget how hard Griffon’s had it. I know it doesn’t forgive his wrongs, but he was always running. And he wouldn’t admit it, but I think he’s been scared his entire life. It’s not uncommon for parents of future Alphas to put too much pressure on their child, but in this case he’s felt that pressure since he was born. Always having to protect, always feeling the threat of the devil on his shoulder.
And he’s right… Bringing another soul into this world, even if it does prolong everything… It doesn’t solve anything. Just gives us more time, but it also gives her more time. And she’s already centuries ahead of us.
“We can’t give her more time.” I tell him, and he nods. “There has to be something more we can do. I just don’t think we’ve found the answer yet.” He responds.
I sigh, “I’m just worried we’ll never find an answer. We’re running low on time, and the most we’ve found is a doll that none of us know what it freaking does, or if it does anything to help us. It might be important to the witch, but that doesn’t mean it’s important to our current situation.”
He reaches across the table and grabs my hand, “We’ll find something, Aspen. I know we will.” He tells me. I look into his eyes, and squeeze his hand, “Optimism from Griffon. That’s new.” I joke, and he smirks. “You’re rubbing off on me.” He laughs, and I join him.
