I keep picturing her still in my arms, covered in blood. I can’t lose the memory; it’s like hardwired into my brain now. And her mom, her mom mean’t everything to her. Losing her is going to be really tough for her, but I won’t leave her side. She’s going to need us all, when she comes to. And with that thought in my head, I go home, shower, get dressed and head back to the hospital.
It’s been three more days since we first got to see her, and they say there hasn’t been any changes. I sit there again holding her hand. “Please, Amy, wake up. I want to see your beautiful eyes again.” I plead with her, not really expecting anything. I lay my head back on her hand, just needing to feel closer to her. When I feel her finger twitch. I jolt upright and she starts choking. I run to get the nurse, and she walks over to Amy smiling.” Why are you smiling? Help her she’s choking.” The nurse stands in front of Amy’s face, doing something to the tube. She looks over at me still grinning, “Sweetie, I am helping her. This is good news; it means she’s fighting the tube. She can breathe on her own!” She exclaims, pulling the tube from Amy’s throat.
I look down at Amy in astonishment, “She’s getting better?” I ask, and she walks over to me putting her hand on my shoulder and smiles, “She’s getting better.” She pats my shoulder and walks out. I hear them call her doctor to her room over the intercom and walk closer to Amy. “That’s my angel.” I smile running my fingers through
her hair.
She looks a lot less like a patient now, with the tube out of her mouth. I send a quick mind-link to my mom telling her what happened, knowing she’ll let everyone know. When the doctor walks in. He goes over a bunch of crap that I have no idea what any of it is. “I’d say at this rate, she’ll wake up soon.” He finally says to me and smiles, finishing whatever he’s doing in here and leaving.
I stare at Amy’s eyes for the next hour, trying to force them open with all my might, when I finally see them flutter. Next thing I know, her beautiful blue eyes are staring at me. I smile widely and squeeze her hand. “Hey.” I say softly, not willing to take my eyes off hers in case this is an illusion. She tries to sit up, but I hold her down, “You have stitches in your back, let’s check with the doctor first to see if it’s okay to move around. She stops moving and nods her head slightly. I turn to press the button for the nurse, and when I turn back towards her, her eyes are shut again.
I tell the nurse what happened, and she seems happy with it. She also said it’s okay for her to sit up, but not to push herself. She can also have more people in her room now, which I’m sure will make a few people in the waiting room happy. I’ve been stealing most of the time in here.
When she wakes up again, we get her turned around gently so she’s facing everybody. She gives everybody a slight smile through the pain that’s apparent on her face. She still hasn’t spoken yet; the doctors are kind of confused about that. They say they’re going to send a therapist in to see if the trauma she went through, is too much for her right now. I’m just happy she’s awake and healing, the rest will come with time.
