Chapter 82

“Buttercup?” Cole yells smiling. “No! I call that one! I like it!” He exclaims, I roll my eyes. He comes up beside me and throws his arm around my neck. “Come on, buttercup. Let’s play some games so you can participate!” Mia hits him upside the head, “Too late! It’s mine.” She says smugly looking straight at him. Cole laughs, ” Nope! I called it.” I just roll my eyes at both of them and let them pull me to the games arguing over who gets to

call me what.

After several failed attempts and many, many joking insults, we finally give up on the games. Liam has made his way to becoming the soul person holding me, which I’m sure makes him happy. Not that I’m complaining.

As we’re walking to the next ride, I realize I have to use the bathroom. I tell Liam and we start walking over to them. I ordered those bathrooms that are like giant trailers, filled with stalls and hand washing areas. I essentially ordered high school bathrooms, at least that’s what they look like. I walk inside to take care of business, once I’m done, I start to head out of the stall but freeze when the people in the stalls next to me start talking. They walk out over to the handwashing stations, and I pull my feet up terrified of what they’d do to me, if they knew I was in here. They should scent me, but it’s like always if I’m hiding it’s like I’m not here.

“I mean did you see her all over him? Who does she think she is?” I hear Kylie ask. Clara laughs, “Look, it doesn’t matter, not only is she human, but now she’s an orphan. Even her own mom didn’t want to be around her anymore. Liam will figure out she’s nothing eventually. Just let him take what he needs from her, he’ll come crawling back soon enough.” My body freezes just staring at the door.

I hear them leave, and my bodies on autopilot. I slowly open the door and start to walk to the handwashing station, when Liam burst through the door. I look up at him surprised. “What did they do?” He asks angrily, pulling me close to him. “Nothing.” I answer. “Why are you crying then?” He puts his thumb to my cheek and starts wiping my tears. I didn’t even realize I was crying. “It’s nothing.” I say, pushing away from him wiping away the rest of my tears. I wash my hands and Liam just waits behind me.

We don’t talk as we leave and head back to our friends, but I can see him sneaking looks at me. He’s worried, again.

I can already tell by the look on my friends faces that they know something happened. They’re all on guard, looking around for the next threat. Mia loops her arm with mine again, “What do you want to do next?” She asks excitedly, proving she understands me better than the guys. I watch them, the whole atmosphere has changed. They’re all in work mode now. I honestly just want to go inside, but I know that will ruin the rest of the carnival for the guys, who the carnival was put together for. I smile at Mia, “Let’s do the haunted house.” I say excitedly and run back to Liam, pulling his arms around me so he can protect me. I can tell he’s smiling, as he leans down and whispers in my ear. “This conversation isn’t over. But I’ll happily protect you from the scary ghost if it makes you happy.” He kisses the side of my neck slowly and makes my whole-body shiver.
