I kept my eyes fixed on him, letting just a hint of my presence slip through–the kind that marked meas the Alpha heir of the Silvermoon Pack
Andrew’s head snapped up, his pupils shrinking to pinpoints. He clearly hadn’t seen that coming.
“Every time he looks at you, he’s reminded of what your family did,” I said, holding his gaze without blinking. “You keep claiming you didn’t know back then. Fine. But now you do know–and you’re still trying to force him to forgive you?”
A bolt of lightning flashed outside, throwing Andrew’s pale face into stark relief against the hospital/ window.
His lips parted, but no words came out.
“Your mother betrayed his father years ago. And now here you are, pushing him to just… get over it.” My voice was low, edged with frost. “Do you and your mother really believe the Howells owe you something?”
Andrew’s expression tightened like a mask. He stumbled backward until his shoulders hit the cool tile wall.
“I… I never thought…” His voice trembled, eyes darting everywhere but mine.
Watching him shake like that, I pulled back some of the pressure and let my tone soften. “If you’re really sorry, then stay out of his life. That’s the only thing you can do for him now.”
Outside, rain began hammering against the glass, and somehow the rhythm of it steadied me.
Andrew slid slowly down to the floor, fingers digging into his hair.
A long moment passed before he lifted his head, eyes rimmed red. “Tell Edith… I’m sorry.”
Then he pushed himself up, turned, and walked straight into the downpour.
Through the window, his silhouette looked frail and thin–like a leaf swept away in the storm.
“Andrew’s gone,” I said, turning toward Kade.
7 “Mm.” He came over, shrugged off his suit jacket, and draped it around my shoulders before taking both
my hands in his to warm them. “You ran out here without a coat. What if you caught a chill?”
“Kade, there’s something I need to tell you. I’m not as vulnerable as you think I am.
I did lose my wolf for a while, but it came back a long time ago–stronger than before.” I took a steadying breath and finally let the truth out.
Kade looked surprised at first, but then understanding washed over his face.
I’d braced myself for aim to be upset with me for keeping it secret.

Instead, he just said, “That’s good to hear. Knowing you’ve had your wolf all this time… it puts my mind at ease.”
“You’re not angry I didn’t tell you sooner?” I searched his face, surprised and a little wary.
He gave me a soft smile. “To be honest, I had a feeling after the way you handled yourself in tight spots before. There was no way you were without a wolf. But it doesn’t change anything for me. I love you for who you are.”
“I love you too.” Overwhelmed, I wrapped my arms around him.
I’d come clean about my wolf, but I still hadn’t found the right words to tell him about being the Alpha heir of Silvermoon. That part was tangled up with my foster father, and it wasn’t just my story to share..
Outside, the rain eased into a drizzle, and streetlights shimmered in the puddles below.
Kade drew me closer. “When I was a kid, every time it rained, my grandma would make homemade pizza” A faint, fond smile touched his lips. “How about we keep that tradition going?”
My heart felt full, and I couldn’t resist teasing him. “The mighty Alpha King heir knows his way around a pizza dough?”
“I can learn.” Kade leaned down and brushed his nose gently against mine. “I’ve got a whole lifetime to take care of you, after all.”
I smiled, warmth blooming inside me.
Somewhere down the hall, the rattle of a medicine cart blended with the steady beep of monitors.
Kade’s expression turned serious again. “Once Grandina’s discharged, we’re having the wedding. We’ll complete the mate bond–officially.” He ran his thumb over the blue diamond on my finger. “I don’t want to wait any longer.”
I leaned into his chest, listening to the strong, steady beat of his heart, and nodded. “Okay.”
At the far end of the corridor, Edith’s door opened quietly.
Briar stepped out and gave us a reassuring nod. “Edith’s asleep./All her vitals are stable.”
Kade released a long breath, then took my hand and led me toward the window.
The postrain sky was clear and deep, with a handful of stars glinting between breaking clouds.
“Look,” I whispered, pointing toward the brightest one. “Doesn’t it remind you of the stars we saw from the observatory that night?”
