Margaret took in the new detail without a word. So there was another catch she hadn’t known about.
Primo sighed, “Come on, she’s supposed to be the original female lead. How did the plot fall apart this badly? In the original story, Phoebe was supposed to climb her way to the top-riding on the devotion of her loyal male leads and building a perfect life for herself. But look at where we are now. Ardon and Kiran are dead. Only Raikes is left, and the female lead turned into some half-beastman, half-insectoid freak. This whole world is completely broken.”
Margaret stared straight ahead, her resolve unshakable. “Ever since I arrived in this world, the plot follows my rules.”
She’d only wanted to stay far away from all those terrible people, find some quiet spot to slack off, and live a peaceful life. But these people just wouldn’t leave her alone. They kept forcing their way into her space, no matter what she did.
She couldn’t be blamed for cutting through every obstacle they’d thrown in her path.
Margaret tapped her knee twice with her fingers. “Ardon and Kiran are dead,” she said. “Raikes is an Empire noble. He’ll definitely be at the royal family’s banquet tomorrow.”
Raikes was the man who’d called her “useless” the second they met, who’d humiliated her with nothing but cold, arrogant disdain.
“Host” Primo mumbled quietly. “The look on your face right now? You’re exactly like the final big bad who’s about to take out the entire main cast at the banquet.”
“Cut the crap. If I can’t outrun this, I’ll clear out everyone who gets in my way. What else am I supposed to do? Wait for them to come after me first?” Margaret snorted. Her brow furrowed as a thought hit her. “Wait -if I go too far, will the main system mark me as an ‘unstable element’ and erase me?”
Primo’s voice turned sheepish. He paused, sounding uncertain. “Honestly? I have no idea. I haven’t unlocked permission to contact the main system yet. Right now, it can only reach out to me one way. So I don’t know how any of this works.”
Margaret rubbed her temples. “You hopeless thing,” she said. “How do we unlock it?”
“We just need to unlock one more galaxy,” Primo answered.
The hovercar pulled up in front of the villa.
When she pushed the door open, the living room was flooded with warm light.
Baar sat on the sofa, taking apart a high-energy particle gun-its components scattered all across the table surface. Timothy hunched over the coffee table, going through financial reports. Tyrone and Quentin were nowhere to be seen, as usual.
At the sound of the door, Timothy jumped up first. His golden hair bounced as he darted over to her. “My Lady, you are back! Which gown did you pick? The store said you took one red and one black. I told you the red one looks great on you.”
“I’m wearing the black one,” Margaret replied casually. She walked past Timothy and sat down in the single

Cheiron walked in right behind Margaret. He hung his coat on the rack, then walked over and sat down next to the spot Timothy had just been using.
Baar stopped cleaning his gun. He glanced up at the two of them, then fixed his gaze on Margaret. “Where were you?” he asked. “You look terrible.”
Margaret took the glass of warm water Timothy handed her and took a sip. She wet her dry throat, then told them everything-the “Phoebe” she’d seen in the underground lab, and Greven’s insane “create the perfect being” project.
The air in the living room seemed to freeze in an instant.
The metal part in Baar’s hand snapped with a sharp crack. He’d crushed it clean in his grip. Timothy’s smile vanished completely. A cold, menacing anger settled over his face.
Timothy was about to snap when the front door by the entryway beeped.
The doors slid open from both sides.
Tyrone walked in first, carrying a fancy paper bag in his hand. Quentin followed half a step behind him, his white hair slightly messy.
All four people on the sofa turned to look at the same time.
“Well, well,” Tyrone said as he changed his shoes. He scanned the living room, a flicker of amusement in his green eyes. “Everyone’s here. Having a little meeting?”
Quentin said nothing. He walked straight to the armchair at the far end of the room and sat down.
Baar tossed the gun parts in his hand onto the table. The metal clattered sharply against the surface. His eyes stayed locked on Tyrone and Quentin.
They’d been staying there for days, leaving early and coming back late every single day. One was smooth- talking and flippant, the other quiet and reserved. Baar had looked into their backgrounds. They were suspiciously clean.
But the cleaner they looked, the more suspicious they were.
Timothy didn’t bother hiding his disdain. He was already simmering with anger over what Margaret had told them. Now, faced with these two mysterious strangers, he snapped back sharply.
