Timothy spun around, locking his gaze on Margaret with a beaming smile. “Once we get the formalities out of the way here. I’m taking you to the Valoran Galaxy. The private planets out there are stunning. You can run wild, do whatever pleases you. No reason to hole yourself up in some cramped place like this.”
Margaret stood to the side and said nothing.
She reached out to Primo internally. “Primo, you catch that? Timothy just called this place cramped.”
Primo jumped in eagerly. “Money talks, host! I did some digging. The monthly upkeep on a private planet in Valoran could buy this whole villa outright. Say yes! Let’s go to Valoran. Make him foot the bill.”
Before Margaret could respond, Baar cut in. He turned to her and asked, “My things are being delivered by courier tomorrow. Where do I sleep?”
Margaret drew a blank. That hadn’t even crossed her mind. She waved a hand vaguely toward the upstairs. “The whole top floor is bedrooms. Plenty of space. Head up and take your pick.”
Baar gave a nod and made for the stairs.
Timothy was quicker, sliding right into Baar’s path with a dazzling grin. “First come, first served. My bags will be here before eight tonight. If I happen to grab the room next to Margaret, I trust you won’t mind.”
Baar stopped dead, his glare fixed on Timothy as if restraining himself.
While the two of them stood locked in a standoff, the aroma of food drifted through the room.
Margaret had grown tired of watching them bicker like children. She’d picked up her scrambled eggs on toast and was eating it on the sidelines, observing the show.
Timothy’s nose twitched. He tracked the scent and turned, his eyes landing on the food in Margaret’s hands. He correctly guessed she’d made it herself. Completely ignoring Baar’s frosty stare, he strolled over, roses still tucked under his arm, peered at the plate, and his face lit up.
“Dear, did you cook this yourself? Just look at that color, that perfect texture-absolutely phenomenal. I’ve eaten at some of the finest restaurants around, but I’ve never seen scrambled eggs on toast look this magnificent. The smell alone is practically cleansing my spiritual core.”
The flood of praise poured out without a single stumble. Margaret’s fork paused in midair.
Baar watched Timothy’s groveling performance, a vein twitching at his temple. He took a breath, composed himself, looked at Margaret, and said with earnest gravity, “We’re going to be sharing a life from now on. Whatever kind of relationship we end up with, we need to properly get to know each other. I propose we sit down now and go through a thorough self introduction.”
Margaret agreed. She’d already picked up bits and pieces about them from various places, but those sources were hit or miss. Hearing it straight from them would be far better.
The three of them headed to the living room and took their seats.
Margaret went into the kitchen, grabbed two glasses, filled them with water, and carried them back, placing them on the coffee table in front of Baar and Timothy.

“All I’ve got right now is water,” she said, settling into the armchair and resting her hands on her lap. “No coffee, no fancy drinks.”
Timothy lifted his glass, took a long swig, and flashed a smile. “Water from your hands beats any premium nutrient drink out there.”
Baar picked up his own glass, sipped it without a word, and set it back down.
