Night grew deeper. Margaret lay in bed, a lingering sense of unease weighing on her mind. She tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. She finally sat up and opened the Starnet forum. The day’s events at the hospital had taken over every trending topic on the platform.
Multiple popular tags sat at the top of the list-“Phoebe’s Cancelled#”, “The Grace of the Galaxy’s Only 3S- Class Female#”, and “Phoebe Appointed Chief Uncompensated Purification Specialist#”.
Margaret scrolled through the posts on her Holo-bracelet. The endless over-the-top compliments quickly grew tedious. She turned off the device and rolled onto her side.
Her thoughts drifted back to Cheiron’s words from earlier that day, as well as the bizarre fluctuations she had sensed in Phoebe’s spiritual power.
Margaret said in her mind, “Primo, do you know how to reach the black market that Cheiron talked about?”
Primo’s electronic voice responded right away. “Why the sudden interest in the black market? Do you think Phoebe used banned substances from there to artificially raise her spiritual power rank?”
“I can’t come up with any other explanation,” Margaret said as she stared up at the ceiling.
Cheiron had told her about his mother in the past. She had been a C-class female. She once joined a dangerous spiritual power enhancement experiment, all in an effort to keep pace with her S-class husband. In the end, the unstable energy tore her body apart and cost her her life.
Years had passed since that tragedy. No one could guarantee that the old experimental data had never leaked into the black market. Unscrupulous people there might have created modified versions of those risky potions. Phoebe’s wildly erratic spiritual power readings were clearly the aftereffects of long-term drug use.
Primo hesitated before saying, “Actually… the original story does briefly mention that Phoebe lived in the slums during her early years.”
Margaret froze at the news and sat upright in bed.
“What?” she said sharply. “How could you hold back such vital background details? Were you going to save this story to read at my funeral after she kills me?”
Primo let out a string of hurt electronic whines. “This isn’t my fault. I’m just an auxiliary system, and I don’t have unlimited omniscient access. The original story has an enormous amount of content. I can only retrieve relevant records when specific keywords are triggered. What’s more, the story only glosses over that period of her life. It never states what her rank was back then. By the time the female lead officially appeared in the plot, she was already an S-class female,”
Margaret paid no heed to its excuses. “Enough rambling. Go find out how to get access to the black market. If we have enough credits, it shouldn’t be hard to buy information or get samples of those potions.”
Primo went to carry out the task. It returned less than two minutes later, looking thoroughly defeated.
“I found nothing,” Primo stated flatly. “My current permission level cannot break through the firewalls protecting the dark web.

Before Margaret could grow frustrated, it quickly offered a solution. “This truly isn’t my fault. You only move between your home and the hospital every day, so the system never gains any experience points. You need to travel to different galaxies and explore new areas. That’s the only way my permissions will upgrade.”
It took the chance to persuade her further. “Think about it. Timothy has been asking you to go on vacation to the Valoran Galaxy for ages, It’s the most prosperous tourist destination in the entire galaxy- breathtaking scenery and top-tier service. Baar is away on official business, and you don’t have any pressing work right now. Why not go to relax? You can also unlock the System Mall while you’re there. You haven’t even opened the mall yet. How can you be sure it doesn’t have advanced tech that could help you? There might even be special tools built to detect banned drugs directly.”
Margaret felt genuinely tempted by the idea. She had never once gone on a real vacation in all her three lives
Still, a key concern soon crossed her mind.
