Gold Digger vs Gold Saver My Man's Double Life novel Chapter 87

Chapter 4

I played completely innocent and spent the entire day shopping, milking every second of it. When my phone conveniently “died,” I made Steve foot the bill for my whole shopping spree.

Watching him wince every time I swiped his card? Pure fucking gold.

After years of being the perfect, understanding daughter, it was about time I embraced my inner chaos demon.

By the time I dragged myself home that evening, Karen was sitting on the couch, ugly-crying over this mangled mess of navy blue paper scraps on the coffee table.

I was internally celebrating, but I put on my best shocked expression.

“Mom, what’s wrong? Why are you crying like this?”

That just made Karen sob even harder. “Sweetie, I told you to put your passport somewhere safe – why didn’t you listen to Mommy?”

I frowned, playing confused. “Mom, I did put it away safely. Remember when I-”

Karen cut me off mid-sentence. “Don’t lie to me right now! If you had actually put it away properly, none of this would have happened.”

Steve and Tyler were standing there playing dumb, acting all concerned. “What the hell happened? You’re freaking us all out

here!”

Karen finally spilled. “After you guys left, I got restless and decided to wash everyone’s bedsheets. When I was done with Madison’s sheets, I found this completely shredded passport in the washing machine.”

“I tried piecing it back together for hours, but it’s just confetti now. I could barely make out the word ‘passport’ after staring at these scraps forever.”

“I don’t know what we’re going to do!”

At this point, I pinched my thigh hard and let out a blood-curdling scream.

“Wait – you’re telling me you destroyed MY passport?!”

“Oh my God, this is a disaster! When a passport gets destroyed like this, it’s treated as lost. I’ll have to reapply for everything from scratch. UK student visas are already a nightmare to get – who knows when I’ll get approved again!”

Steve shot me a death glare. “Madison, what the hell is wrong with you? How can you talk to your mother like that?”

“At the end of the day, this is YOUR fault for not putting your stuff away properly. If you had actually been responsible, how could Mom have accidentally washed your passport?”

Tyler was rubbing Karen’s back, looking at me like I was some ungrateful bitch. “Exactly! Mom was just trying to help, and

now look how upset she is. Can’t you see she feels terrible about this?”

“You’re the one who left your passport lying around – apologize to Mom right now!”

I was on the verge of tears. “But… but I told you guys not to touch my stuff!”

When Karen saw I wasn’t buying into their guilt trip, she immediately went full dramatic mode.

“Don’t try to stop me – this is all my fault! If I had just checked the pockets first, none of this would have happened. Madison’s mad at me, and she has every right to be!”

“Just let me die! I’ll probably mess up something else later anyway!”

When I didn’t immediately rush to comfort her, Tyler started losing his shit.

“Are you seriously not going to apologize? You’re just gonna stand there and watch Mom suffer because of YOUR mistake? What if she actually jumps off the balcony?”

Steve chimed in too. “Come on, it’s just college – it’s not the end of the world! Help us calm your mother down!”

All three of them were putting on this whole performance, acting like I was basically murdering Karen by not apologizing for her “accident.”
