Right then, the door creaked open, and Salem stepped out, looking like he’d just crawled out of a grave, his cheeks hollow and his frame gaunt. He propped himself up in the doorway with one hand. “Dad.”

“I’m here! I’m right here!” Bernard practically shouted, his voice thick with emotion.

Bernard sprang to his feet, tears threatening to spill, but then watched as Salem drifted out like a lost soul, making his way to the table and bowing his head.

Everyone looked over and saw Salem fixated on the busted table corner from last night, where Stella had

smashed it.

They were confused.

Salem mumbled, “So it wasn’t a dream after all.”

Bernard froze in place.

“Dad,” Salem said, still in a trance, “It was like I saw a ghost yesterday.”

Everyone was speechless.

‘He looks healthy enough to me,’ she thought, not even bothering to check.

“He ate my socks!” Allan yelled, pulling out a bunch of mismatched socks.

They were every color under the sun.

Simba just looked all innocent, like he had no idea what Allan was talking about.
