Logan
Standing in a corner, watching people, mostly my relatives and familiar faces chatting and enjoying among themselves whereas I chose to drink quietly.
I had no interest in their conversations. They were happy, their kids running around the house.
Inwardly, I was jealous of them because I was all alone, watching their happy world.
“Mind if I sit here?”
I heard a feminine voice and I was forced to shift my gaze on the intruder. I saw a tall woman standing with a flute of champagne in her hand. She had a polite smile on her face.
“I am not the owner of this place. So, you can make yourself comfortable anywhere.” I replied nonchalantly.
“You’re right but right now, you are the one occupying this comfortable place and you seem to enjoy your peace. I can’t be rude to invade your privacy.” She said and sipped her wine leisurely.
“I am leaving so you can sit here.” I said after a few moments.
“You arrived hardly thirty minutes ago and you’re already leaving?” She raised her brow at me.
“You’re keeping a track of people coming and going?” I asked her but it was more like a satire.
“No, but the presence of Logan Wilferd can’t be ignored. You steal the limelight.” Her response was quick and it seemed like she wanted to have a conversation.
“Excuse me, Miss. You can enjoy the party now.” I said and placed my empty glass down.
“A friendly chat wouldn’t hurt and let me tell you something,” She leaned closer, “I am also bored here. My Mom dragged me here because she wants me to find a right match.” She let out a small laugh.
“And you think I am one of them?” I raised a brow because I really disliked this kind of trading and competition among rich mothers who deliberately dragged their daughters to find rich suitors in parties.
My mother had done same with my sister many times.
“Absolutely not!” She shook her head subtly, “I am not trying to hit on you, Mr. Wilferd because I know how much you are devoted to your wife and you’ll wait till eternity for her to return.” She said.
Well, it caught my attention. She was one of the rarest people who didn’t pity me or gossiped about my married life.
“I also wonder it till this day. How my resources and money couldn’t find her.” I chuckled.
“Maybe you should try harder.” She narrowed her eyes.
“Thank you for your advice but can we not discuss my married life now?” I subtly requested her to end the topic.
“I am sorry, I didn’t mean to pry in your private life.” She quickly apologized and rose from the sofa.
“Ashley, I and Mandy look for you everywhere and you found company in the most boring person in this party.” Felix interrupted the conversation.
I looked up and finally I got to know the name of the woman who talked smoothly with me.
“We were only talking about random things and honestly I was hiding from Mom.” Ashley grinned.
“Logan, she is my sister-in-law. I think you have already met her.” Felix looked between us.
