PART–137
Tessa
“Mamma.”
“Yes, baby.” I looked down at my daughter who was laying on my chest while I was stroking her hairs.
“I want to hear one more story.” She said in her sleepy voice.
“Lena, you have school tomorrow.” I said and kissed her forehead.
Gently placing her down on her bed, I stroked her hairs. She always slept on my chest and listened to stories. It was our routine for years. My kids were my whole world.
She was a bright child and outspoken. She was loved by everyone in the neighbourhood and at her school whereas Lucas was more introvert now but a very protective brother.
He took care of her in my absence. Seeing the love between my children, my heart used to swell.
Once she was fast asleep, I covered her properly with blanket and placed a kiss on her forehead before exiting her room. Lucas was also fast asleep.
It was still early for me to go to the bed, I made a cup of hot chocolate for myself and went to the backyard to enjoy some time alone under the stary night. The spring was pleasant.
Life seemed perfect, the way I pictured it four years ago when I was collecting the broken pieces of my life.
Yet something was missing.
I never dared to ask Adrian about Logan or searched about him. I didn’t have a social media account
either.
“Springs nights are beautiful here.” I heard a voice and I looked on the other side of the fences.
It was my neighbour holding a cup of coffee. He waved at me with a smile.
“Yes, I love the weather here. It’s different from my old place.” I replied.
“I and Lucas practiced soccer today. His skills are improving and he’s a fast learner.” He spoke again after a moment.
“He’s brilliant but thanks for encouraging him and coaching him for free.” I thanked him.
He shook his head, “Oh, don’t thank me because I really love to teach kids here whatever they like and luckily, I found Lucas who has interest in football. I was the captain of my college team and won many trophies at state level before I joined the army.”
“Still, thank you, Mr. Connor.” I said.

“You can call me Eliot instead. I am not much older than you and we are neighbours for more than two years now.” He said with a small laugh.
“But we’re not close friends. I prefer to call you formally.” I stated the truth.
He was living with his aunt who was my neighbour. All I knew about him that he took early retirement from army after a near death experience and since then, he was working on his aunt’s farms which was only a few miles away from the city.
I also knew that he secretly had a crush on me. At least what his aunt told Kelly who passed the information to me. Since then, I maintained a distance from him because I didn’t want to give him false
hopes.
“Are you free on Sunday?” He asked me.
“I can’t say because my business may need me any time or any day.” I replied and it wasn’t a lie. “Well, I want your permission to take your kids to the carnival in the town. My aunt is also going. I can guarantee you that they’ll enjoy it to their fullest because it’s real fun.”
I was in a dilemma because I didn’t trust anyone with my kids after what Raelynn did with my daughter. “Please, don’t worry. They will be safe with me. I am not a crazy stalker.” He joked.
