PART–143

“I am sorry, Mr. Wilferd. I disturbed your personal time.” Ashely, who walked out of the jewellery shop holding the customized necklace for her grandmother, said in an apologetic tone.
“It’s okay. Can we head back to the hotel now?” I tried my best to sound polite but inwardly, this closeness was discomforting for me.
It wasn’t like she was clingy and invading my personal space but being close to another woman who wasn’t even my friend, it didn’t feel right.
“Oh, no, I think we can’t make it to the villa. The storm is getting worse. Shall we stop by a café or small restaurant until it passes and we can safely go back?” She said and it was true.
It started raining and it was difficult to walk steadily, let alone driving back to the villa which was on a forty minutes‘ drive from the main city.
“Ms. Steller, I think we should wait for the rain to stop somewhere near. Dinner isn’t necessary but I won’t stop you if you want to eat something.” I said.
I felt a strange stirring inside my heart but I couldn’t pin on it. Ever since I met the small girl in the café, my mind wasn’t at peace. She awakened those painful memories that I had with my kids.
They flooded back with force.
“Mr. Wilferd, let’s wait here.” Ashley pointed on a small restaurant.
Giving her a silent nod, I followed behind her since she knew the city better than me. The warm
temperature inside the café and chatter of people forced my thoughts to come to a halt. She ordered two cups of coffee for us.
“My Dad wasn’t very happy when I explained him that we might face loss rather than profit but then he said he needed time to think about it but he didn’t refuse it flatly. So, I think it’s a positive sign.” She spoke.
“I thought it was your brother who has influence over his decisions and eventually he’ll take over the company after your father.” I commented.
“Yes, your guess is right. My brother will be the next boss but I am also holding a high position in the company and my father can’t ignore that I make good use of my master’s degree in business management.” She replied.
I didn’t say anything and waited for the rain to stop or slow down while enjoying the coffee.
“Mr. Wilferd, can I ask you a question?” She broke the silence.
