Tessa
“It’s fine, Ms. Vance. My cousins talked about your designs and prices all the time and the wait is worth. My mother is a very picky person. She doesn’t like anything but something special and she loved the dress.” Diane, the customer who ordered the dress for her mother, praised me.
“Thank you, Ms. Steller. I am glad that Mrs. Finch liked the dress.” I said politely.
“Please, enjoy the party.” She said.
“Oh, I am sorry, Ms. Finch but I am not here alone. I am getting late for work. There’s a shipment that arrived today and I have to receive it.” I apologized.
“Ms. Vance, please, stay for some time. I insist.” The host lady insisted and I found myself in dilemma.
I opened my mouth to say something but cut off in middle by someone and the voice made me freeze.
“Tessa?”
I forgot to breathe.
No, he couldn’t be there. My body was immobile.
“Logan, do you know her?” Diane asked.
She didn’t know that I was Logan’s ex-wife and I had no idea that the Finch family were either friends or relatives of Wilferds.
The same scent engulfed my senses that he always wore.
“Yes, I know her very well. She is my wife.”
Logan’s voice was firm, flat and emotionless.
I didn’t dare to look up, my hands were sweating and I felt like I would collapse any moment from the shock that I received.
“Logan, what are you saying?” Diane gasped.
My heart pounded wildly against my ribcage.
“Yes, she is my wife.” Logan responded to her without hesitation and for the first time, I dared to look up.
My eyes met with the man I left. He hadn’t aged a bit, not at all. His stubbles had grown but it gave him a more handsome look. Those eyes were staring deep into my soul, lifeless, blank but the storm beneath them was terrifying.
I knew, it was the end of my escape.
“I think I should leave you two to talk privately.” Diane, who was also present near us, spoke and her voice forced me out of my thoughts.
No, it wasn’t the right place to talk.
“Excuse me, but I have to leave now.” I said looking away from him and hurried towards the exit but he blocked my way.
“Don’t you dare, Theresa Wilferd. Do not test my patience this time.” His voice was calm but deadpanned.
He discussed about our problematic marriage with her? The thought didn’t set well with me.
“But I don’t want to talk. Excuse me, I need to go now.” I said coldly and turned to leave but his large hand wrapped around my wrist.
I forgot to breathe as his touch sent a sensation that I felt after four years. The coldness was radiating warmth which travelled through my body.
“Do not run, Tessa. You know that I will chase you down. I am being nice here so behave well and answer me.” He said in a low, warning tone.
My eyes welled up. Leaving him without a proper explanation was irrational but it gave me a chance to rebuild my life, recognize my true self and explore my strength and weakness.
“Logan, I already signed the divorce papers. I think it was my answer.” I made a lame attempt to escape him.
“Fuck the divorce papers. Do you really think you could just leave some ridiculous papers behind and I would happily sign them. Not to mention you had the audacity to take my kids away from me. Think again before you speak, Theresa.”
His voice was full of anger and accusation.
I opened my mouth to speak again but I was cut by someone else and he was the last person whom I wanted to walk into the scene.
“Ms. Vance, I was waiting for you outside but it took you so long.”
It was Eliot who offered to give me a ride in the morning as he was the one to supply vegetables and dairy products to the Finch family for the party.
Logan’s eyes moved on Eliot who was smiling warmly at me. We decided to be friends. Although, it was totally harmless and I clarified everything with him during our ride to the Finch’s house, Logan’s jaws tightened.
